  • “Quick” landscape/cityscape photography tip: Want to get your camera out of automatic mode and learn more about its settings and capabilities? First of all, IGNORE everyone you hear say that “real” photographers shoot in manual. The bottom line is the result, not the method. Try this trick and see if it helps you: Shoot in aperture priority mode. The aperture is the opening allowing light to enter the camera; it’s either wide open (low f-stop number) or it’s narrow (higher f-stop number). In this mode, the camera will automatically decide the proper ISO and shutter speed. I’m trying to give the Cliff Notes version of this, so you may have to explore a little more on your own. If you plan to shoot cityscapes or landscapes, you may want EVERYTHING in focus and sharp, so you want a higher number, like f9-f16 or so. Personally, I shoot my cityscapes and around f9-f11 (ALL at ISO 100) sometimes higher. This increases your shutter time because you’re allowing a small amount of light in at a time (smaller opening), so bring a tripod! .
.
So to break it down and keep it VERY simple: If you want everything sharp, choose a higher f-stop number, making a more narrow path for the light to make it through to the sensor. The camera will choose your ISO (but I recommend this to be at your camera’s lowest possible setting; I can cover the “why” in another post, but high ISO isn’t good for this kind of photography), and it will choose your exposure time. After a while you’ll start to understand the relationship between aperture, ISO, and shutter speed and how to have an affect on each and every one of them. Hope that helps someone! .

  • Have you ever wondered what the tallest building in Dallas is?? I’ll give you a hint, you’re looking at it lol if you guessed Bank of America Plaza then you are ⭐️ correct ⭐️ @bankofamericaplaza is the Tallest building in Dallas at 921 ft or 74 floors 😮 it is also the 3rd tallest building in Texas, and the 32nd tallest building in The US. 😱 so it’s pretty dang tall! But this building comes by some pretty interesting and unique history. Built in 1985 for a staggering 146 Million 💵 this building was actually meant to be the first of two towers. The second was never built because of the recession in the 80’s but oddly enough was supposed to be outlined in purple lights. If you don’t remember our Bank of America Plaza was originally outlined in green 🤗💚 and of course, the famous TV show Dallas made this building infamous as it was home to the main characters company, JRE industries, in season 11. Today however, it has some interesting uses! Most of the building is office space but surprisingly the top 2 floors are used for broadcasting and communication by the likes of FOX, CNN, ABC, and TBS. And in true real estate tradition, there is no 13th floor due to US superstition. And if you’d like to see the Bank of America Plaza in all its glory, this picture was shot @reuniontower geo-deck. Being up that high really makes appreciate how beautiful Dallas really is 😍 #herestoyoukid #dallas #dallasisthebest #ilovemycity #thingstodoindallas #mycityisbetterthanyours #bankofamericaplaza #reuniontower #reuniontowerdallas #dallastx #dallasinsta #instadallas #dallasblogger #dallasfoodie #dfw #dfwtx #dfwinsta #instadfw #dfwblogger #dfweats #doingdallasthings #karliedoesdallas
