  • In Yoga we work with Heart~openers because many of us have protectively created a shield around our heart from emotionally challenging or traumatic events in our lives and also from years of improper physical posture causing muscles to stiffen restricting our flexibility + mobility around the chest and Heart Chakra. This shield is also preventing us the emotional capacity we need to relate to one another, feel compassion/empathy/love towards ourselves and those around us, to be more open about ourselves and show our true self.
Heart~opener yoga poses help soften these tissues (shield), increases the circulation of oxygen, prana and blood in this region and to the Heart Chakra. Sometimes we may experience a release of sad emotions combined with also a wave of joy of feelings which can be felt simultaneously & immediately. Yoga gives us the gift of removing our blockages that we have which keep us from truly knowing our selves in a deeper capacity and giving us the ability to come from a place of authenticity when relating to others.

What is your favorite heart opener pose?💖 📸: @_polo_photography .

  • Been a while since I did a progress pic! First one was taken about 2.5 years ago, I couldn't get my hips to the pole, my back was at maximum bend there and I had to flex my foot in to stay on 😊 Still super proud I even did that though! Lots of pole and stretching later and I can do the second pic now 🔥

  • I wholeheartedly (and perhaps optimistically) believe that leg would have been extended straight if it wasn’t -1 and I wasn’t shivering trying to capture this photo for the gram 😅🙋🏻‍♀️

  • MYTH: Push through the pain ❌ Think of making improvements to your flexibility as a long-term journey. Stretching will feel uncomfortable at times, but there is no need for pain on this journey. Approach your training sessions with safety as your number one priority: it’s better to avoid injury than to push yourself into an extreme position in the short-term, only to experience an injury that will take you out of the game in the long-term.⠀
⠀
If you feel sensations such as ‘crunching,’ intense ‘compressing,’ or ‘smashing,’ we encourage you to back off or make a modification for the pose. How do you distinguish between pain that will hinder your progress and sensations that are a natural part of getting into a new range of motion? Aim for a discomfort level of 5-6 out of a scale of 10. Huge amounts of intensity aren’t necessary to make gains in your flexibility; it’s consistency and safe progressions that matter. Trust the process and focus on stabilizing and strengthening at the end range of your motion so your body can adapt to a new norm.⠀
⠀
If you’re ever taking a class and something doesn’t feel right, try a modification that will target the same area in a different way that’s better suited for your body. That might mean easing out of your split a bit and re-squaring your hips, or it might mean doing a high-V straddle on your back instead of attempting a froggy position. If the pain you’re experiencing is greater than the stretching sensation, it’s best to come at it from a different angle. Also, if you have an injury or a serious condition that affects your ability to train, we encourage you to work with a healthcare professional such as a physical therapist, so that you can receive personalized assistance with your modifications and limitations. Happy stretching!⠀

  • Ok.. It's not that I haven't been stretching. I just haven't been posting. 😅 I'm back at classes, back at workses.. Life is fantastically nuts again. 😵 I've had many a session where I stretch at home and just can't be bothered to pull out my camera. 🙈 Or we stretch in class, and I just don't think about filming or photographing it. BUT! 🍑 The progress speaks for itself. 🤸‍♀️ Take that, day 22! #40daysofpractice #backbend #backflexibility #stretching

  • Heart Openers || Back Bends feat. @noor.mibrahim⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
——⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Noor finds it pretty poetic that in order for us to open our hearts, physically, we must bend our back.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The opening of the chest symbolizes opening the heart, growing in compassion and connection to others and thus decreasing isolation and depression. By lifting your heart, moving your shoulders back and lengthening the front and back of your body, you decrease back pain and shoulder tightness, and improve your spirits⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Noor says she recently realized that heart opening is so much easier in my physical body than it is in relationships.. so here’s to learning to embrace vulnerability truly, not just theoretically. ♥️♥️♥️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • 3 years of FUN
| @christelleheitz |
So, today, it's our anniversary! 3 years ago we had our first shooting ever together. Leave a comment if you want to see it! 👍🏻
Since then, we went through a lot of laughs, some tears, deep conversations and most important: FUN! I'm not afraid to say it's the key to achieve excellent work (at least it makes it more interesting to do..)

  • Big BUNS..... I like them and this is why 😬
.
Day 3 Of #FusionFlow2020 is straddle splits. 🤸🏻‍♀️You guys who have been following me for awhile know I LOVE this variation with a backbend. 🪐And no it’s not because it’s easy for me. It’s actually quite challenging and requires a good deal of warming up both in backbends and middle splits... but that is precisely why I like it. Because the hook, the catch, the reason I come back to practice is to challenge myself, to learn something I didn't know, and to achieve something I previously only imagined possible. 🍀

  • AUGUST ➡️ NOW!!!⁣
⁣
I’m LOVING this needle progress!!! @theaerialdiaries attended my workshops back in August when I was in Florida (leg flex, back flex and needle workshops), and she’s been able to make this awesome progress from what she learned 🤩 Here’s what she said when she messaged me this video:⁣
⁣
“Hi Catie, I keep applying what I’ve learned in your workshops and Contortion Strong programs and I’m extremely surprised about the progress. Thank you, thank you, thank you, I love you and you’re amazing ♥️. Ps. now I need to work on holding it for at least 25 secs 🙈”⁣
⁣
Not only do I live for these love notes, but it warms my heart seeing the progress everyone makes!! Thanks so much for sharing, Gigi 🙏 and I can’t wait to see your next update 💛⁣
⁣
SIDE NOTE: I don’t have any workshops scheduled at the moment (soon though 🤫). But my Contortion Strong conditioning programs are available through the link in my bio!⁣

  • Exactly one month until my first Mini Retreat Intensive @Glowyogaretreats in Siargao!
I’m so stoked on the creation of these new offerings, because not only will be learning together in super small groups- but the experience is also less than half the cost of my typical retreats, as well.
If you’re looking to improve the physical aspect of your yoga practice, as well as dive deeper into the mental & spiritual elements- then these Mini Intensives are perfect for you!
There are a few spaces left for several days of daily yoga, focused workshops, meditation, the most delicious plant based food on the island & barefoot luxury accommodation at @Lotus_shores_siargao.
Learning, growing & connecting in paradise.
Doesn’t get much better than that.
I hope to see you there ☀️ #GLOWyogafam

  • My time here has been been simple, but oh so very sweet.
Surf twice a day
Practice twice a day
Meditate twice a day
Sleep twice a day
Eat whole food
Read
Repeat

This combo has given me so much more than I ever could’ve imagined.
And for that, I think I’ll stay just a little longer 🌻 #GLOWyogafam

  • Catching the breeze and floating away.

This water is where I grew up skiing, swimming, and boating. It’s special for me to come back time and time again with new mindsets and experience this familiar thing in new ways. Where do you find this feeling?
