  • 🥑🥕🥦FOOD FACT FRIDAY🥑🥕🥦 Have you ever wondered what the difference between whole grain toast and white bread is? .
.
.
Sugar. The sugar in white toast is digested quickly by our enzymes, giving us a quick surge in blood sugar. That sugar rush then leaves us feeling tired, and in toddler speak, fussy 😭 .
Whole grain breads are more complex, slower to digest and have to be broken down bit by bit in your system. This makes you feel satisfied for longer and avoids that blood sugar spike.

The difference between the two is all in how processed it is, so the closer we get to real food, without heavy processing - the longer we’ll stay full, the better our gut will feel and the better WE will feel. .
.
.
This holds true for baby food too. The more processed, the higher in sugars and the worse we feel. So here’s to getting our future foodies the closest thing to homemade. #pressureprotected #amara

  • Omega 3
.
.
- ikan seperti salmon, sardine, mackerel
- kekacang dan kuaci
- minyak sayuran
- minyak ikan
.
Jom tambahkan menu anak kaya dengan makanan yang tinggi omega-3.

  • The newest allergen recommendations show that early (when starting solids between 4-6 mo.) introduction to allergens can actually help prevent allergies! This was based off the landmark LEAP study.

When I was introducing solids to my daughter, the thing that made me most nervous was introducing allergens. ⠀
⠀
We have no serious food allergies in our family, and I was still nervous. Yes, even as an experienced dietitian I was nervous. So, if this is you, know you are not alone!⠀
⠀
But, we also know (based on the most current research) that the early introduction of top allergens is one of the best ways to prevent food allergies in kids. ⠀
⠀
Currently, it is recommend to introduce the top allergens early and often. That means in that 4-6 month starting solids window. You do still want to be mindful of developmental readiness for solids. ⠀
If your baby is at high risk for food allergies based on previous identified allergy, family history or other reasons identified by your pediatrician such as eczema, be sure to have a conversation with them before starting. This can help give you some confidence moving forward. ⠀
⠀
What are the top allergens?⠀
⠀
👉🏻Eggs⠀
👉🏻Peanuts⠀
👉🏻Treenuts⠀
👉🏻Soy⠀
👉🏻Wheat⠀
👉🏻Fish⠀
👉🏻Shellfish⠀
👉🏻Dairy
👉🏻Sesame (updated: for those of you in Canada)
⠀
There are lots of ways you can include these in your baby’s diet, but above are just a few examples!⠀
⠀
✨If you need more guidance as you start your baby on solids, don’t forget to grab my free starting solids e-guide. You can find the link in my profile. You will get all kinds of helpful information and support as you start your feeding journey!✨⠀

  • Great chart for formula feeding GUIDANCE. The research tells us that exclusively breastfed babies take in an average of 25 oz (750 mL) per day between the ages of 1 month and 6 months. Different babies take in different amounts of milk; a typical range of milk intakes is 19-30 oz per day (570-900 mL per day). Every baby is different! If you ever have any concerns always be sure to consult your physician!

Fed is best, but it is important to note Formula-fed babies typically consume much more milk at each feeding than breastfed babies, but they are also more likely to grow into overweight children and adults. One large study (16,755 babies in Belarus) compared feeding volumes in formula-fed and breastfed babies and found that the formula-fed babies consumed 49% more milk at 1 month, 57% at 3 months, and 71% at 5 months. Australian research found that between 1 and 6 months of age breastfed babies consistently take on average around 3 ounces (90mL) at a feeding. (Younger babies with smaller tummies take less milk.) Breastfed babies’ milk intake doesn’t increase from months 1 to 6 because their growth rate slows. As growth slows, breastfed babies continue to get bigger and heavier on about the same daily milk intake, averaging about 25 ounces (750 mL) per 24 hours.) https://breastfeedingusa.org/content/article/breast-versus-bottle-how-much-milk-should-baby-take)

This post is in no way meant to mom shame anyone. It is just presenting information. I personally exclusively pumped and formula fed my daughter, but I’m a strong advocate of breast feeding if possible. There are so many benefits to doing so.

Tag a friend who’d find this chart useful Always talk to your doctor about how much your child should be eating or if you have any questions or concerns. Tag a friend who could use this GUIDE.

  • I get a lot of sideways glances from parents when I tell them to let their baby play with their food. Trust me, my total like to be in control personality didn’t always love the food splatter that was constantly hitting the floors, the cabinets and several times, the cats! 🙈⠀
⠀
But, we know that letting babies get messy during meals is one of the best ways you can help them develop positive learning and feeding skills. ⠀
⠀
There are so many benefits to the mess, but a few include:⠀
⠀
➡️Improved ability to transition and tolerate different textures⠀
⠀
➡️Increase acceptance of new foods⠀
⠀
➡️Decreased picky eating tendencies over time⠀
⠀
➡️Opportunity for independent sensory play⠀
⠀
➡️And, improved communication⠀
⠀
On the flip side, constantly wiping your baby’s face and hands can create a negative association, making them less likely to enjoy food and mealtime. ⠀
⠀
Some research has suggested that babies who were allowed to play with their food could better conceptualize and communicate differences in items later on. ⠀
⠀
One example was the difference between a puddle of milk and a puddle of glue. Without touching, how would one really know the minor differences? Fascinating!⠀
⠀
👉🏻Moral of the story: strip them down or get a smock and get a splash mat and let those babes get playing!⠀
⠀
✨Don’t forget to download my free starting solids e-guide! It’s recently been updated and oh so good 😊 Link in profile! ✨⠀
