  • I donโ€™t normally make โ€œNew Years goalsโ€, however this year I wanted to start reflecting more on my days and how I could have made any improvements,

I havenโ€™t been feeling like my self the past 2 weeks, Iv been depressed, overwhelmed, feeling useless, stressed, and mind racing thoughts.
Medicating has been helping me calm down my emotions, slowing down my racing thoughts, and really take a look at how I could have improved my actions that day without giving me anxiety thinking about everything wrong I did that day. We are our own worst critics to our actions.
When I self reflect at the end of the day I get to remind myself that I was given another day, even if it was a bad day, or if I messed up, it is still another day that was given to me, that is precious.
The great thing about life is when you get second chances, you get to redeem yourself โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š #mmjpatient #mentalhealth #azmmjcommunity #weedlife

  • This year so far has been a very tough one for both my physical and mental health. Plain and simple: Iโ€™m not well.ย This is the first time in recent weeks that I even acknowledge this. For some reason, this time Iโ€™ve completely internalized it and dismissed itโ€” I think itโ€™s because of just how invisible my symptoms are. My mental illness has convinced me that my physical symptoms donโ€™t matter all that much because I can easily hide them, and because lots of others have it worse. Rationally, I know that anotherโ€™s symptoms donโ€™t invalidate my own. But mental illness lies.ย
A couple of weeks ago I had an untriggered panic attack. It lasted hours and was so bad that I had to be rushed in and sedated. Drs put me on oxygen because my body simply forgot how to breathe. It was one of the scariest things Iโ€™ve gone through. I say this panic attack was โ€œuntriggeredโ€, but ultimately I know that it was a culmination of months of struggling both mentally and physically. My body couldnโ€™t take it anymore.ย
The combination of mental symptoms Iโ€™m experiencing are making it very difficult to even function, and the stress from that worsens my chronic illness symptoms. I still have more good days than bad days, but the bad ones tend to be excruciating. On the good days, I push myself to try to keep my routine and do the things I love. Sometimes Iโ€™m able to, and sometimes Iโ€™m not. Healing isnโ€™t linear, and right now itโ€™s a bit more difficult than usual, but I know itโ€™s not permanent.

  • Have you ever asked a budtender why do they work in the cannabis industry?? ๐Ÿค”
.
If you have, you will find that many of us have our own stories of how cannabis has changed our lives but what about going deeper than that? In a dispensary you will find people from all walks of life but the one thing I have found we all have in common with one another is healing, of whatever type for whatever reasons, whatever that means. Healing is the thing we all really have in common. ๐Ÿ’—
.
For me, my reasons are easy. 5 years ago my dad died. He made some decisions in his youth that led him to a life of addiction and methadone clinics. In his last years he was over it. He wanted to use cannabis only but he didnโ€™t have a med card, I wasnโ€™t in the industry yet, and we just didnโ€™t have the resources at the time to get him the help he wanted. So today, I am a major advocate for cannabis use to help end opiate addiction. So thereโ€™s that.
.
Another solid reason I work in this industry is because I, myself am a healer. When I am serving you at my station as a budtender, I am not only the conduit for your cannabis needs but I am your friend. I am someone to greet you by your name, look you in your eyes, hold space for you without judgement as you unload all of your lifeโ€™s events. Physical, mental, emotional, energetic - all types of releases happen at my station. Some people really just want to be heard, seen, and validated. I have made sooo many genuine connections with patients that I cannot even begin to explain how they have impacted my life. I am reminded why I work in an industry where my talents and great work is often overlooked, itโ€™s not for me itโ€™s for the people whoโ€™s personal lives I have touched, the people that leave crying happy tears and ask if they can hug me, the people who teach me something new about life in general everytime I see them, the people who bring me special things as gifts of their appreciation for me, itโ€™s for the feeling I get when I KNOW I made someoneโ€™s day by being there for them, offering some words of encouragement or support that they really needed to hear that day. ๐Ÿ’–
.
So next time ask your budtender why they are there and thank them for it!

  • 5 years ago today I lost my dad. He would have told you it was โ€œ49 years of rock and rollโ€ but what his light-hearted spirit meant is he had struggled for 30 years with an opiate addition paired with alcoholism. Dumb choices he made as a teen followed him into adulthood in the form of an addiction that doctors nursed and fed. .
My parents split when I was a baby because my mom needed a safe and healthy environment to raise their 3 daughters. Being the youngest, I grew up knowing him but never really knowing him.
.
From an early age I had an understanding of addiction and how it takes hold of you, changes you, and doesnโ€™t stop until you are ready to stop it. .
As an adult I began to redevelop a relationship with my dad when he moved back to Arizona from California in 2010. Strange as it may be, as an adult my dad and I finally had something in common... cannabis.
.
I would go to my dadโ€™s house after leaving my โ€œcaregiversโ€ and he would show me the plants he had growing and curing in his shed out back! ๐Ÿ˜‚
.
Heโ€™d break off a fat nug of something I would NEVER smoke and send me home with it and I would bring him fresh edibles from my โ€œcaregiverโ€, who conveniently lived down the street from him.
.
My dad died in 2014. I got my first dispensary agent card and patient card in 2018... he never had his patient card. The AZ Medical Marijuana Program did not launch until 2012. Towards the end of his life my dad was not going to the clinic to get his methadone... he was using cannabis.
.
This is why I am here. This is why I am almost 30 years old and make high school wages. I am here to help people who need help. I am here to educate people about alternative ways to heal. I am here because he couldnโ€™t be. So ask yourself... why do you chose cannabis and who are you helping every time we share this topic?
.
Finally resting in peace dad.
Love you.
