en la pr谩ctica de Ashtanga, cultivamos esta actitud mediante el uso del 鈥榙rishti鈥. drishti es un punto focal, y cada postura tiene uno al cual debemos dirigir la mirada. pero no termina ah铆! la mirada debe tambi茅n ir hacia adentro... hacia nuestro cuerpo y hacia nuestra mente. 
entrenamos esta capacidad mirando un 煤nico punto, pero realmente buscamos desarrollar una cualidad mas sutil de observaci贸n en la que podamos reconocer las necesidades de nuestro cuerpo y los colores de nuestros pensamientos sin envolvernos en ellos ni juzgarlos. permitiendo que simplemente sean. 
siendo s贸lo testigos, aumentamos nuestro entendimiento de esa naturaleza. 鉃

Once again, I've pulled this from the archives of October 2016, just before I got pregnant and just a couple of months after returning from my teacher intensive in Colorado. For a multitude of reasons, I haven't practiced or attempted drop-backs very much since then, but when my body is ready for them again, I will embrace the challenge with open arms (and narrow elbows)! This even made it onto a vision board I created in January of 2016 and this is probably my best attempt captured on video and possibly the best attempt without an assist, period (going down, anyway). Yes, this is as hard as it looks (at least to me) and yes, it requires unrelenting commitment to practice, fearlessness, and trust. 
Just watching this video, makes my quads burn!

  • The Pigeon鈥檚 Heart 鉂 馃惁
The pigeon is a messenger humbled by tenderness.  Pigeons are connected with the soft aspect of the human heart. When the totality of experience touches us, we discover sacredness. Often pigeons are associated with forgiveness, kindness, mercy and with freedom. The pigeon follows the path of mercy and forgiveness.  Here one day, gone the next, however, just like wild rock pigeon innate鈥檚 homing ability, meaning that it will generally return to its nest, (it is believed) using magneto reception, the pigeon always returns home, and HOME IS WHERE THE HEART RESIDES. I truly believe that only the energy of the heart is what moves physical matter. No matter how much action and effort you offer, if your heart is not inspirited nothing/no-one/no-body is touched. If you wish to dissolve into the heart of this posture, into the heart of yourself or the heart of anything you need to find the feeling spirit of the condition. Yes, you need to know anatomical spirals, muscle contractions/relaxations and the other aspects which arouse the form of the pose. However, you can find a way to inspirit the pose with your magnetism of your heart -YOUR SPIRIT - in this case, tenderness, kindness and freedom, the inner experience of the form is transformed. The whole drama takes place within you - within the individual - we don鈥檛 arise from the body, we rise in the body. We don鈥檛 awaken from the body, we awaken in the body and the psychological/emotional/psychic alchemy is take place within you -  within the inner sanctum (the rooms/corridors/houses) of the mind. The heart of pigeon is a strength that one can rely on; the kind of strength that underpins and inspires growth. The softness is more than just boundless bendiness; it's a responsive willingness to open in the face of vulnerability, not out of blind faith, but with the knowledge that the foundation is there to hearten you. This posture paradoxically teaches us stout-heartedness and whole-heartedness and uses the tangible physical body to inspirit ourselves and our relationships. After a rough first trimester of all day, every day morning sickness, I鈥檝e been feeling more energized lately and have been getting in full practices, with lots of modifications, that is! This is how I modify the Marichasana sequence at this point:

A - Instead of planting my foot only a hand鈥檚 distance from the extended leg, I leave a little more room, and I don鈥檛 fold forward very far, with the intent of both modifications being to leave space for my bebe 鈽猴笍

B - I don鈥檛 fold forward any further than is comfortable, again to leave space.
.
.
C - I take an easy, gentle twist as it feels good, especially in my low back, though twists are usually not recommended. I lean back to make it easy, and I don鈥檛 go for my wrist. This is the only time I do any twist. .

D - I turn the other way, I don鈥檛 go for my wrist, and I don鈥檛 fold forward, all with the intention of doing the posture to stay with the meditative count while at the same time being gentle.

IN THIS LECTURE Eddie will discuss the four paths of yoga that represent the four basic ways that we interact with the world. Yoga at its core is聽the practice of knowing who we are on a deep level. The access we have to that inner knowledge gets cloudy because our minds are filled with thoughts, desires, confusion, conflict and regrets. Yoga provides remedies for all of these mental difficulties, which聽are reflected through the four paths, or modes, of yoga. This class will include chanting, pranayama, and lecture. ******

WORKSHOP: YOGA THERAPY & RESONANCE BREATHING:
DOWN-REGULATING INFLAMMATION. 
We begin this evening class with chanting of the Ganesha bija mantra, followed by a discussion on yoga therapy and the different classifications of聽breathing practices. We will follow that with some simple yoga therapy postures that are good for calming the nervous system and preparing you for meditation practices聽
In this class we will also practice a special type of breathing practice called Resonance Breathing. Within our body, resonance occurs when our heart聽rate, the changes of our heart rate, our blood pressure, and brainwaves all come together in a coherent signaling pattern. When this occurs, several amazing things happen: our emotional and physiological resilience increase; inflammation re- duces; cardiovascular聽health improves; stress reduces; sleep improves; the nervous system becomes increasingly well balanced. This class will give you a direct experience of resonance breathing and the heart-brainwave coherence.

  • I never thought backbends would become enjoyable for me one day. They were certainly the part of the practice I dreaded the most. I kept avoiding them for several years and when I finally started practicing them I went through physical and emotional struggle that made me doubt myself more times than I can remember. .
.
It took me years of daily practice, making progress in everything but back bending, to realize that the root of my suffering was not the pain itself but the anticipation of the pain. The 鈥渋 can鈥檛 do this鈥 echoing in my mind before I even start back bending. I could almost not enjoy the rest of my practice because of the stories I was telling myself to silence the fear. .
.
I can鈥檛 remember when and how I decided to let go. I guess my love for the practice was in the end greater than my fear. Day after day, I learned to love the process of moving beyond my edge. .
.
Opening up sure is scary and brings to the surface everything that we would rather keep hiding. Trusting is hard but constant self-doubt is much more harmful than trying and failing. I still have a long way to go in terms of back bending but fear gave long ago its place to love and opening up feels now like the right thing to do. .

Trust yourself and trust the practice 馃檹

  • Do hips store emotion? As a scientifically-minded individual, I of course have to say no. That said, I think I understand what people mean when they say that.

Hip openers are often quite intense, as they stretch very deep muscles that wouldn鈥檛 often be stretched. This can naturally cause feelings of anger, fear, and anxiety as part of the body鈥檚 response to pain. This certainly has happened to me!

  • We say, that are four aspects of human life: 鉃★笍 dharma - the duty or service that one needs to fulfill in life, 鉃★笍 artha - the wealth or the (financial) means of fulfill the service , 鉃★笍 kama - the pleasure or passion needed to see the aim to work for above mentioned efforts and 鉃★笍 moksha - the final liberation which comes only if the previous steps are being fulfilled along the way.
