  • Apples and Cherry Blossom Jar. 12”x16” oil on panel ❤️❤️❤️ Sometimes I just can’t believe that I can paint like this now. It’s such an amazing blessing and I’m so grateful for it everyday. 🎨🎨🎨 I’m actually in tears as I write this because I remember a day when I thought I would never be good at this. Don’t give up y’all! Keep going for your dream. 🎨🎨🎨Today I decided to redo the jar as I felt I needed to be more deliberate and really capture the cherry blossom design more specifically. 🍒 And as always the composition was better with less so I eliminated some apples. 🍒 Sometimes I think that’s the hardest part is editing and letting go of things for more empty space. 🎨🎨🎨 Wishing you all a magical day of creating! Day 21 (10 more days y’all!) of 31 day Strada Challenge. #stradaeasel

⠀
_____________________
It is surprisingly how differently people see this picture🤔
⠀
I called this painting the "Romantic evening", because flowers, candles, languishing and subduded light make me think about a loving couple, passion, tenderness and love 😍
⠀
But in many Russians most Russian this picture caused association with the death: the laid flowers and candles 😳 Originally it was drawn without glasses, but later I had to add them so that the spectators did not have tragic thoughts
⠀
However, my friend from Holland, on the contrary, chose this picture among the others. For him, this is a painting with beautiful tulips, which are the symbol of his amazing country and now it is the exhibit of a private collection 🤗
⠀
And what associations does this painting cause in you? 😉

  • Is drawing from life better than from photo? 🧐🧐🧐
I’ve been painting from life for 12 years, but
Before that I only ever did drawing copies from photographs or art books.
My first real art class the instructor set up a still life ( a really ugly one, but I digress) and said draw. 😱😱😱
I stood there staring at the pumpkins and lettuce with this messy stick in my hand. Everything was different. My paper up in the easel not on my desk. Charcoal not a number 2 pencil. Drawing standing up with my arm not my wrist- what the what?! 🤬🤬🤬 I drew like I was 5 years old to say the least. It was humiliating. Everything was so foreign to me. So I went home and practiced over and over. A bag of flour on the kitchen counter? Sure I’ll draw you while dinners in the oven. 😋😋😋
What I realized was that drawing something from life was totally different from drawing from a photo. I thought I was pretty good at drawing, until I tried drawing from life. Then I saw that I was missing a big tool in my artist toolbox. 🤩🤩🤩
As disheartening as it was to see that I wasn’t as talented as I thought I was it was also exhilarating to know what I needed to work on.
I was so excited about the prospect of being able to look at anything and draw it that I quickly said goodbye to my past victories in search of new ones. 🥰🥰🥰
12 years later, I can draw anything from life.
While working from life isn’t the fix all, it has its own limitations as well.
I’ve found working from life to be more fulfilling and enjoyable personally. I’ve found that studying so much from life has also helped me do better work from imagination or photography as well. 😘😘😘
Hope you enjoy the final version of Velazquez Jug and Melon!

  • Are you being sabotaged by shame? .
I know many of us are participating in the Strada Challenge. Here we are day 18 or 19?
.
I know many are wanting to through in the towel. I don’t blame you. I’m not gonna lie I have too from time to time. .
Thoughts of “I’m too busy, this is too hard, as of I don’t have enough to do already!” Start to kick in. .
And worst of all the pressure we can put on ourselves to perform since it’s a public thing can be either very motivating or crippling. .
We can even be humiliated to post what we worked on that day. Thoughts of: “Oh my goodness this is awful! Everyone’s gonna laugh at me! People are going to see what a hack artist I really am. “ also start to kick in. .
Who can stand up under that kind of scrutiny 😔
.
Here’s the thing every single time you create and practice it’s like investing a dollar in your savings account. .
That dollar isn’t worth more or less based on the outcome or level of quality of your practice. .
Some turn out awesome. Some just suck.
And here’s the thing that’s okay!
It doesn’t mean you’re not a good artist. It just means your struggling right now. We all do. .
Here’s the other thing, the pressure you feel right now you’ve put on yourself out of fear. .
There’s nothing to live up to here. The only rule is to work on something everyday from life. Not it has to be great or even it has to be finished. .
Let’s not forget the bigger objective here and that is to follow a new DAILY HABIT. The reason why the challenge is so good is that it helps you turn creating art into a daily habit. .
It also shows you that your capable of making art daily! Even if that means it’s just a sketch or drawing. .
Then that becomes part of your identity statement.
I’m an artist and I create DAILY. How cool is that?! .
So the days not over. Don’t throw in the towel.
You got this! .
And if you already threw in the towel who gives a shit. Start again! .
Day 18 or 19 idk #stradaeasel
Oh yeah here’s the painting that kicked my ass for 2 days. 😘 “Rice Basket and Pear” 18”x14” oil on panel .
Happy creating everyone!
