Put your hand up if you’re the strong one? The thing is that the strong ones often feel taken for granted. They’re the ones that just get on with it and don’t ask anyone for help. Can you remember the last time someone asked you how YOU were?⠀

Inside we’re breaking though. I’m ok with putting my hands up and saying I’m one of those strong people. I try not to complain and it’s often assumed that I’m always ok because of what I do, my character, the way I am as a person. I’m not always ok because I’m human. At the same time, it feels odd when someone does ask because I don’t really know what to say.⠀

Being a healer is about experiencing the hurt and pain just as much as the next person. That’s what gives us the ability to relate to people on the level that we do. You can only meet people as deeply as you’ve met yourself. We have the tools to help us but that doesn’t mean that we are immune from the growing pains that come with being human. It doesn’t mean that we don’t need kindness and affection from time to time.⠀

It’s lovely that we spread love and light but in my view, it’s just as important to share the struggle and show ourselves as real people with real vulnerabilities. There was a time where I would rather withdraw and disappear than share because it was a lot easier but the truth is that it’s important for me to show the entire range of who I am, warts and all!⠀

As someone who was diagnosed with anxiety disorder in 2nd grade, mastering your mind seems like a dream to me. As I graduated high school and went into college, I did learn how to cope with it. And as I’ve gotten older, the use of medication has dropped off and the control has become stronger and stronger. But anxiety still creeps in. It is still the monster under my bed at night, just waiting to creep out and wake me up at 2am. Through fitness, prayer, and a supportive husband to lean on, my control has steadily grown. But this is a journey, and I will keep fighting!

  • "It's not about being good at something. It's about being good to yourself." I don't pretend to be some sort of expert #yogi or act like I can do the tree pose without falling a few times. But I do love yoga and think it's super important, especially for me.

One look at me and you can tell I'm not built for the gym. But I am built for stretching, and over time maybe these stretches will get me to a point where I can go to the gym.

For the longest time I always said I wanted to go to a yoga class, because as you may remember I have terrible follow through, but my lifestyle just doesn't allow me that time.

Thankfully @adrienelouise creates amazing videos that give me that class feel at home. Honestly #YogaWithAdriene is my go-to for yoga now. She seriously has created a video for almost every situation that you're hoping yoga can help with (and spoilers, it totally will). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • We talked about how stressed and overwhelmed I get at home and work. The building I work in is open plan and there isn’t a single room where I could be alone other than a cubicle in the toilets or a managers office (with their huge windows). It’s over stimulating, noisy, busy and there is no space for solitude. At home we spend a lot of time together, there isn’t a room in the house that I wouldn’t be followed into. I have been known to hide in my wardrobe. The kids even unlock the bathroom door from the outside! There is no space that’s mine. I have very few minutes in my day when I am on my own. I know that in a way that is a blessing but also I really need space. I need alone time to process, be myself, feel things. To think without being interrupted. Anna said, ‘so, beautifully, you created that space inside yourself.’ I paused and said, ‘in my head?’ she nodded. She said ‘don’t you think it’s amazing that you have given yourself what you need, when there seems to be no way of getting it externally? You needed space and peace so you made it inside!’ I’ve been working this over in my mind since she said it and it’s really quite incredible how she does this, she reframes things that I had demonised, turns it into something admirable and completely understandable and she’s right! I did this all my life. My internal world is magical. It is everything I needed and always has been. All through my childhood… I have memories of the ‘real world’ and then I have memories of all the amazing things I did inside my head in my inner world. I could be and do anything I wanted in there. I was so many different people. I felt all the things I wanted to feel. The space is infinite. As a child my inner world was always safe and free. Until things started to warp when I was a teenager, I suddenly couldn’t control what happened in there anymore. And now triggers, nightmares and flashbacks feel like such a terrifying attack. For years my external world wasn’t safe and loving but at least I had my inner world. When that was threatened, when my inner world began to be penetrated by fear and doubt and shame and terror – I had nothing. This is something I’m yet to take to session.

Worry is a strange emotion and one that I find doesn't help anything. Worry used to be the biggest trigger of my anxiety. I totally understand that worry is a natural emotion when we don't know the outcome but it doesn't not help any situation. 
I used to worry about every tiny little thing. It was overwhelming and exhausting. It would cause panic attacks and for me to isolate myself completely. Which then in turn caused more worry.

An amazing tool that can help is a gratitude list. 
Write down 3 things everyday you are grateful for and what how differently you feel.

When anxiety hits, it can be hard for us to remember what we know about God. We can get so caught up in our immediate situations, it becomes difficult to step back and see the bigger picture.⁣

But when it gets hard to breathe, we have a place to turn to. We can set our focus on God, and remember these 5 truths.⁣

God might not take away our anxiety immediately. But He will see us through, and be our great comforter in the midst of it (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)⁣

  • When you cut yourself, yes you might put a plaster on, but you don’t assume you have a job to do in knitting the cells and skin back together.

The same is true of our mind. If we feel off-balance, anxious, worried, frustrated, stressed, had enough, it’s like a psychological cut.

It’s useful that it hurts because we can notice it and we might put on a psychological plaster, like self care practices; walking, time with friends, cups of hot tea. 
But fundamentally the mind, like the skin, will restore itself to its natural state of balance.

You wouldn’t meddle with a cut to make it heal faster. You know that would, in fact, slow it down. Know that the same is true for your mind and the primary psychological meddling we do is believing it shouldn’t be like this. 
But how could you know?

  • Seriously what a week, what a month! I’m physically and mentally drained. I’ve cried, laughed, got angry, got sad and had plenty of meltdowns. It’s been emotional and it’s been challenging. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve taken a bit of a step back from my social media recently, not intentionally but because I am struggling to fit it in my daily routine now. My main problem right now is my work, I have no time during the day to be on my Instagram and post what I’m eating and doing and by the time I get home I’m flopped on the sofa trying to switch off! Also I’m finding when I’ve been concentrating on my computer screen all day the last thing I want to do is then sit on my phone! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Although, the hardest thing about my week is my best friend @mrs.wwdubai had her last day in our office yesterday after 8 years to start her new chapter in her life as a mother. I am so unbelievably happy for her and so excited to meet baby box (who I think is a girl 💕) but I’m going to miss her so much especially as I’m not going to be able to see her everyday. We had a very emotional goodbye yesterday even though I’m seeing her tomorrow for breakfast! 😂⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now Rossi has left I’m now facing new challenges and an increase in my workload which is exciting for me but tough! My manager has also been on holiday this week which means I’ve had even more piled on top of me... it’s been insane and I’m drained! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, I’m putting a positive spin on it now and making sure I have a relaxing weekend. I’m going to get to see one of my best friends become a mother, I’m going to get use to my new workload and if it gets too much tell myself I’m only one person and I can only do so much rather than letting it bring me down. I put up this picture to remind myself that I will be smiling again soon and that I’m going to start making some time for myself again. I’m getting back into cooking all the time and getting up early enough to workout! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Certain things we do “fill us up” and are like “deposits”. Other things (both planned and unpredictable) are withdrawals because they stress us out and require us to expend a lot of emotional energy.

I would also like to add trauma is a very broad and inclusive term here. Trauma includes- discrimination, bullying, racism, microagressions, homophobia, fatphobia and so much more. ⠀
Thinking of things this way can allow you to plan for upcoming stressful events.

If you are visiting your family and this takes an emotional toll on you, you can plan ahead by engaging in extra self care and making extra deposits this week.

This prevents burnout and allows you to take care of yourself effectively!

  • Redirecting our energy is such an important practice. Remember what we spoke about the other week? How, if you’re trying to manifest a white Jeep, all the sudden you’ll see them everywhere! Well, think of what you’re attracting or just ‘seeing’ if you’re always focused on past pain, hurt, or betrayal. That’s right ~ you’ll see more pain, hurt, and betrayal.
