  • The #globalclimatestrike in San Bernardino was so amazing tonight. It was awesome marching in solidarity with my comrades and so many wonderful local groups. Fuck Amazon and their shit pay for their workers and all the pollution they cause in our most underprivileged communities. We demand climate justice. We need a #greennewdeal ✊🌹🌱

  • I've seen quite a few posts critiquing those at the climate strike, asking if they're vegan, what they do as an individual, complaining that they use cellphones or that their parents dropped them off etc. I'm tired of it.
What you do as in individual has very little impact. That's the truth. What we do together can change the entire system. That's why direct action is important. The system is broken, it prioritises economic gain over all else, over the environment, over individual autonomy. Going vegan is great, recycling is great, but don't shift the focus onto individual accountability when what we need now is a global movement & a system reset. People are striking to change the system & make it realistic for us to live in sustainable ways, because currently sustainability is inaccessible. The only way we can change that is by mobilising and coming together, regardless of what we do as individuals.

  • we’re lovin’ it

Our current social arrangement makes us feel like shit. It is taking its toll on the world we live in as well as on our selves.

Capital exploits and runs our life-forces to the ground, extracts value from our personhood, zombifies us, pollutes and degrades our minds and very being, shortens our attention span, and limits the parameters of our imagination and our capacity to think up better worlds.

There is no longer any distinction between life and work. We are always producing surplus-value; we are always at the ready to answer a work email or call, and we generate data in our leisure time as we upload, check in, share and like. And yet most of us now find ourselves chronically underpaid or underemployed.

We have never seemed so connected, yet we find ourselves increasingly separated and atomised, alone, anxious and paranoid, pitted against each other and against other ‘others’, viciously competing for crumbs.

Even those who materially profit from the current social structure are wounded by it, enslaved by its poisonous logic and bound to its so-called rational imperative of endless accumulation.

We’re faced by the seemingly infinite choice of goods and services to satisfy our needs, and we mistake this choice for freedom as we blindly trudge through the landscapes of late capitalism, the piles of rotting rubbish and putrid waste it discharges and the ruins it leaves in its wake, a planet scarred by the devastation it wrecks upon it and scorched by the never-ending wars it wages. But we’re too busy looking for the right emoji to even notice that we too are being burned and consumed.

This is merely a contingency, another world is possible.

  • Mainstream veganism is undeniably white, capitalist, and focussed on the single-issue of ending the oppression of other animals while ignoring other forms oppressions. Radical veganism challenges this narrative by engaging in an intersectional analysis of the root causes of oppression. In this way it is true to the original meaning of the Latin word ‘radical’ as it addresses ‘the fundamental root or base of something’. If activists truly want to challenge the status quo and further progress society, they should dare to be more radical. ◾️ was a true pleasure to be drafting out these thoughts on radical veganism with @the.mirror

Earlier today, Dr. Kiona and Aja Barber (@hownottotravellikeabasicbitch & @ajabarber) had a LIVE where they discussed how social media is free for users, the ethics of consuming content and the struggles of making money while staying true to your values as a content creator.
You can still catch their LIVE over at @hownottotravellikeabasicbitch

Now I can relate to that so hard! To make money as a content creator that cash has to come from somewhere. And if like me you don't want to encourage consumerism* or other stuff that's not helping the environment, most potential sponsors are a no go for me. *of newly produced stuff using virgin material - second hand and upcycling is awesome!

Unless you're a content creator yourself, you might think it's a very easy thing to do. But there is so much time put down for research, writing, editing, photographing, replying to comments and DMs and support other creators on their instagrams. And to be truthful with you, it's getting harder to motivate myself to put down as much effort and energy into something that is taking time and energy away from the work that actually pays.

You might have noticed that I basically never hade any sponsored content on my Instagram and that's because I turn almost everything down.

So, after talking to some friends who’ve kept insisting I should - I have created a Patreon page.

Patreon is a membership platform where the members pay a monthly feed (starting at $1) and get to access whatever content I put in there. I've been wanting to make informative video content for a really long time but haven't found the motivation to do it yet since it's so time consuming but with patreon I'd have a reason to finally do so!
➡️Patreon.com/earthwanderess

What kind of content would you want me to share on my Patreon?
❓
My sustainable wardrobe, make-up, how I plan my plane free travels, personal life, informational about different topics?
