  • Amarone Riserva 2007 of the winery Ernesto Ruffo. The vines of this wine grows on the volcano San Briccio, 15 minutes drive from Verona. The rock next to the bottle, on the picture, is a piece of Basalt of the volcano. 
This Amarone is really a masterpiece and belongs in the top 3 of best Amarone. Very elegant, refined, delicious fruit, harmony and a very long finish. For those who appreciate top wines, this is the ultimate Amarone.
The wine aged for at least 90 months in the best quality French barriques and then 2.5 years in the bottle. It takes 10 years to bring the wine on the market. Drinking such a beautiful Amarone leaves an unforgettable impression.
I am so glad that artisan producers like Ernesto and Leonardo Ruffo still exists.

Located at the top of Monte Ca’Paletta which dominates the valley of Negrar (one of the 5 Comuni of the Valpolicella Classico), the winery is itself a gem: old and new are wisely mixed to give you a beautiful experience for your eyes and mind.

The tasting is like a ritual, a journey of slow magical moments stretching backward in time to when the wine was produced.

  • È un mondo a parte quello di noi sommelier quando, tuffando il naso nel bicchiere, riusciamo a cogliere sfumature agli altri sconosciute. Capita a volte di “annusare” tutta l’essenza di un vino e di rimanerne imprigionati venendo trascinati dentro sogni confusi. Non si sa mai se se ne uscirà interi, di sicuro si avrà l’anima a pezzi e i sensi in agguato. •

Mi è capitato con questo Amarone Riserva 2006 di Valentina Cubi, azienda di Fumane, vicino la città di Verona, sulle colline della Valpolicella. In realtà è un super-Amarone con ben 7 anni di maturazione in botte grande. Proviene da una coltura biologica ed ha un conteggio degli aromi che lascia sbalorditi. •

Naso stratificato e profondo, molto evoluto, denso di note terziarie di pellame, cuoio, prugna in confettura, rosa appassita, sottobosco con fungo e humus, erbe officinali disidratate, tonalità ossidative minerali di goudron su folate balsamiche. In bocca stesso registro ricco e denso dove la parte fruttata ha ceduto un po' della sua freschezza rimanendo sempre affascinate. Un assaggio sopra le righe con le componenti ancora in perfetta armonia.Trama tannica vellutata su un finale lungamente sapido. 
Può creare dipendenza.
