  • What does vacation look and feel like to you? ⠀
⠀
I just got back from enjoying a few days in Colorado (without the van?!). I’ve always believed vacation and down time are important but I’ve never really stopped to think about what this looks like given my current lifestyle. ⠀
⠀
Traveling has become so engrained in my daily life - it’s sometimes hard to remember I’m not always on vacation. It's the new normal - where the only consistent thing is the constant change. ⠀
⠀
I’ve fallen in love with the ability to take my home with me everywhere I go… no packing, no forgetting things and I always get to sleep in my own bed. ⠀
⠀
But I also feel constantly tethered to the van. It’s hard to leave due to logistics of finding a safe place to keep it while I’m gone. I hate having to ask other people to help or rely on someone else by asking them to look out for it while I'm gone. It can be hard to plan trips with friends involving flights because I don’t know where I’ll be coming from - so I often just plan to drive to keep my flexibility. It then becomes hard to commit to a plan in the middle that could change the path of my entire month. ⠀
⠀
Anyone who lives in a van understands how often plans change and probably considers this to be one of the most beautiful parts - to be able to chase a new opportunity that just popped up yesterday. But I think sometimes our greatest advantage can also become our biggest downfall. ⠀
⠀
I get that all of this is a privilege and I don’t mean it as a complaint. Simply a reflection on how life changes and how we have to adapt to figure out what is important to us. Because we can have anything but not everything 🙂 ⠀

  • That time @rameyelizabeth3 and I took our rental car with approximately 1 inch of clearance up some gnarly roads that were actually not at all in the direction of where we wanted to go, somehow got ourselves into a Jeep that drove us up 4 foot boulders for what seemed like an eternity but was at least in the right direction, and then crawled up icy hills using our bare hands...only to not make it to the viewpoint we wanted to get to because we had to rush down. Fun times.

  • I started to learn to love and appreciate nature!
🏔
I used hate hiking. I mean, who would find walking for a long time with a heavy backpack to be fun? I used to dislike camping too. Who would love to sleep outside in layers of clothes? Now I have an answer to both questions: ME 😄
🏔
I chose to learn to like and eventually love them. Now I’ve done solo hiking, solo camping, and even a multi-day backcountry camping. My love and care for nature and the environment is the biggest motivation that made me start my zero-waste journey.
🏔
All I want to say is that we all need to start somewhere. We don’t need to be “born with it.” We can choose to learn it (whatever it is) including sustainability.
🏔
Have you eventually liking something that you used to dislike?
📸: happy me 🥰 I couldn’t see anything on my way up & elevation gain was pretty brutal for me, so I thought to myself that this better be worth it 😅. It absolutely was!

  • Zie jij jezelf hier wel skiën? Livigno is echt een ski-paradijs. Brede en rustige pistes, wat pittige zwarte stukken, geen wachtrijen bij de liften, fijne lunchadressen... wat wil je nog meer?

  • I said it last Winter (my first) and I'll say it again: I love winter! 🥰 Being raised in Southern California and living there up until a year and a half ago, I never would have imagined liking the snow. But I find it to be so exciting and magical - I almost go back to feeling like a kid again playing in the snow. ❄️ Of course I have to stay warm, so I carry around my @somawater brew bottle, which keeps my fave earl grey tea hot and extra-handy! Ad.✨ https://bit.ly/2EbAuCA

  • Tried to hike to one of my favorite lakes the other day but we decided to not posthole for four miles once the packed trail ended. Still had fun and ended up at a pretty waterfall. Hopefully later this winter the snow will be better, I'm not sure I have it in me to snowshoe the rest of the way! 📸: @rachelbartle

  • So this is 29. Today I am stepping into the last year of my 20’s and not really sure why that scares me a little. I still feel like I’m 24 half the time and other days my body makes me feel like I’m a lot older than I am. Lookin’ ahead I am SO excited for what the next year has in store, as it is going to be one of the most memorable years yet. I thought I would have traveled to 30 countries by 30, and I am moving towards that ☺️
*
*
Thank you to each and everyone of you who continue to follow along and support me on here - and to those I have finally been able to meet in person, who took the leap to come travel with me. I am excited to be announcing a new trip destination for the end of this year (if you’re on the email list you will be receiving that today) and lookin’ forward to meeting even more of you on the other side of this screen. *
*
Thanks to Craig and Timber for making me feel extra special every single day and to my family and friends for all the support over the years ❤️ | If I have learned one thing throughout my 20’s (oh boy I have learned a lot) it’s that you can NOT please everyone. No matter how hard you try and how good your intentions are - people are going to judge you and people are going to misinterpret you, so as long as you’re intentions are good and you’re living a life YOU’RE happy with and proud of, try not to let the rest get to you. Also don’t forget to take care of YOU, we can get so caught up making sure everyone else is good, with work, friends and family etc. sometimes we forget to put ourselves first. Don’t forgot to check in with yourself ❤️ Happy Wednesday everyone! @eddiebauer #ebcontributor #liveyouradventure

  • John Muir once said “Earth has no sorrow that earth can not heal,” which has become a spiritual belief of mine. So I am going to let earth do its job for a week by living outside on the islands which I was born. Starting with backpacking through this crater.
🥾🎒🌋🌴
Usually when Seasonal Affective Disorder hits me hard in December, I plan some elaborate trip out of nowhere to distract myself from it in January.
I told Ben we weren’t going to “SAD travel” again this January in an effort to be more financially responsible...
I never contradict myself until I contradict myself.
So we are getting on an airplane in a couple days.
Instead of a financially reckless trip to Tulum, Iceland, or South Africa like the last three Januarys, I planned a super-budget, highly adveutrous trip to the Hawaiian islands to shoot & test products for @go.the.fuck.outside with some friends.
We’re going to THREE Hawaiian islands for about $600 a person including all airfare & accommodations.
I am more than happy to share all the details after I document the trip, as I think it’s time to start blogging again. I really miss it.
In the meantime, here are a few tips that helped me keep this trip as bank account friendly as possible:
1️⃣ Hawaii was selected due to its proximity to where we live. It’s cheap to fly to from the west coast as a 4-5 hour nonstop. We were able to get round trip flights for about $260 a person. Additionally, hopper flights between islands are only $50.
2️⃣ We are willing to sleep on the ground & pass on the bougie accommodations. We are backpacking & using a camper van for most of the trip, making this whole thing v affordable.
3️⃣ We used our hoarded credit card points for two nights in the middle of the trip for a free bed & hot shower.
4️⃣ Our dates were flexible while planning. I chose flights on the cheapest dates I could find, then figured things out from there opposed to going in with hard dates.
5️⃣ We are willing to drive 2-3 hours to a bigger airport. Sac & SFO have quicker & cheaper flights.
🌴🌋✈️
This trip is going to be far from “comfortable”.
Which is exactly what I need right now.
Let me know if you are interested in hearing more.
