  • Sady Donbasu, an apple-producing company in eastern Ukraine, lost about $2.5 million in equipment and storage containers when a Kremlin-backed armed conflict exploded in Donetsk. Serhii Ostapets, the company owner, and his business partners fled their homes for the village of Dachne, located 70 kilometers away, but within the government-controlled area of Ukraine, taking with them what little they could. They were determined to get back to business but lacked financial resources. In 2017, Sady Donbasu connected with USAID’s Agriculture and Rural Development Support activity, which worked with the company on a co-investment plan. USAID provided $123,000 and Sady Donbasu invested $235,000. This fresh cash infusion allowed Serhii to purchase new processing and storage equipment, enabling him to finally relaunch the business. Mindful of the workers they had left behind in the non-government controlled area, Sady Donbasu management began hiring internally displaced persons like themselves, who had fled the conflict zone and were now trying to re-establish their lives in a new location.   • November 25th marks the start of #16Days of activism against gender based violence. Today we share a story from Mexico, where with 34,000 registered missing persons, 2017 proved to be the most violent in Mexico’s recent history. After being fired for missing a week of work while she was searching for her 17-year-old daughter Fátima, who had gone missing, Nidia Ivonne Muñoz Gavaldón sits before Chihuahua’s State Attorney’s Office to claim truth and justice. USAID’s Human Rights Activity in Mexico has provided technical support to improve the investigation of gross human rights violations and supports the National Prosecutor General’s Office to review and update the Investigation Protocols for the Crime of Femicide and for Sexual Violence.   • During Deputy Administrator Glick's recent trip to Bangladesh, she was able to visit Young Power in Social Action's Countering Trafficking in Persons Shelter in Bangladesh, where she heard the stories of human trafficking survivors. USAID firmly believes human trafficking needs to be fought at the community and national levels by civil society and the political and judicial systems. #Bangladesh #HumanTrafficking #EndHumanTrafficking #USAID #USAIDTransforms

  • Sady Donbasu, an apple-producing company in eastern Ukraine, lost about $2.5 million in equipment and storage containers when a Kremlin-backed armed conflict exploded in Donetsk. Serhii Ostapets, the company owner, and his business partners fled their homes for the village of Dachne, located 70 kilometers away, but within the government-controlled area of Ukraine, taking with them what little they could. They were determined to get back to business but lacked financial resources. In 2017, Sady Donbasu connected with USAID’s Agriculture and Rural Development Support activity, which worked with the company on a co-investment plan. USAID provided $123,000 and Sady Donbasu invested $235,000. This fresh cash infusion allowed Serhii to purchase new processing and storage equipment, enabling him to finally relaunch the business. Mindful of the workers they had left behind in the non-government controlled area, Sady Donbasu management began hiring internally displaced persons like themselves, who had fled the conflict zone and were now trying to re-establish their lives in a new location.
