  • The gates of C.B. Croff's Second Empire have become a popular backdrop for many an impromptu "selfie" on Instagram or professional fashion shoot staged on the streets of Hudson. This show stopper of a house has remained Hudson's most admired facade since 1874. ⠀ ⁣

  • We love every charming element in this Kinderhook home, but our favorite just might be the large, open-space kitchen addition or the exposed wood beams that give it so much character. Newly adjusted from $399,000 to $389,000.

Built in 1800 by the Corning family, this charming 2000+ sf home located on a double lot offers historic details, impressively high ceilings and a tastefully added addition.

The full-length porch offers peace and quiet from the vantage point of being located on a corner lot on a dead end street. The inside seamlessly blends 19th century details such as exposed beams, working fireplace and the original hardwood floors with the modern addition of the new kitchen, first floor bedroom, ensuite tiled bath and half bath. Both the kitchen & master bedroom flow out to the deck, perfect for alfresco dining.

This home offers plenty of potential with two additional structures, a storage shed & art studio. Located 25 min. to Hudson (Amtrak), 10 min. to Kinderhook & a short stroll to downtown Valatie. Just 2 hours north of NYC, this home is ready for new owners to lovingly continue caring for it.

  • No house in Hudson has attracted more attention than C.B. Croff's Second Empire Victorian, built in 1874. The original builders barred no expense in creating the the wow factor that this stunner is known for today.

In 2005 it was fully renovated and upgraded with modern amenities while the historic charm was preserved. Boasting a mostly open plan first floor, it includes a spacious gourmet kitchen, large formal dining and living rooms, comfortable family room, 3-season room and lovely outdoor spaces. There are five bedrooms, including a generous master suite and study. Tasteful touches like gas fireplaces, heated floors and modern bathrooms were also added during the renovation. In the fully finished basement, a gym, wine cellar, laundry room and ample storage can be found. Three-zone HVAC keeps the house at the perfect temperature year-round. The tall ceilings and wide sweeping staircase enhance the dramatic beauty of the interior. This home is a rare treasure found in the City of Hudson.

  • What would a Second Empire Victorian home be without stained glass? Windows played an essential role in designing Victorian houses during the late 1800's. Viewed as a symbol of upward mobility, stained glass was a coveted feature with the more expensive houses opting for elaborate examples and lots of it. Second Empire built by C.B. Croff in Hudson is a perfect example. Every floor features beautiful examples of stained glass, with the bedroom windows stealing the show. Stay tuned for more posts featuring this Victorian beauty tomorrow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • 116 Warren Street.
1809 Bank of Hudson. A commercial bank organized the previous year with John C. Hogeboom (1768-1840) as President. The bank failed in 1819, following the first major peacetime financial crisis in the United States - The Panic of 1819. Hogeboom then converted the building to his private residence. Hogeboom, born Johannes, was born in Claverack NY; was a member of the NY State Assembly and State Senate; is buried in the family plot in Ghent, NY. Part of a long, multi-generational, line of civic and political leaders in Columbia County, NY.
The only Adamesque, or the “Style of the Adam Brothers", building in Hudson, and one of the few remaining in America. A particular neoclassical architectural style created by the Scottish Adam brothers, Adamesque, was popular in late 1760s United Kingdom. It arrived in America immediately following the American Revolution and was a briefly fashionable precursor to the Federal style. Hogeboom ruined the uniform nature of the building by shifting the entry door from the center to the left-side of the facade.
The City of Hudson is filled with spectacular architecture and is home to every 19th century style found in America. Some are rare, some unique, all worth seeing.
Join us Saturday at 1 p.m. for the final Historic Hudson walking tour of the season. We will explore the architecture and the history of Hudson…founded by slave-owning, rum-distilling, whaler Quakers in the late 18th Century! We meet at the large gazebo on the park, located at the corner of Union and West Court Street. A few short steps from Warren Street at 4th. More details on our website.

  • Dating back to 1878, this unique property has a noteworthy provenance: general store, post office, rooming house, ice house, tavern, and station stop. Here is your chance to create an equally interesting future! ⠀⠀⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Enjoy total privacy and beautiful, un-obstructed views of the Hudson River. The two story residence is located at the end of a road with access to the Cheviot boat launch and yet is only minutes to Hudson's hip restaurant and shopping district. Cheviot Landing Station House is just waiting to be reinvented into a hip home worthy of Germantown's reputation for being the "new" Brooklyn North. Not for the faint of heart but the bold and imaginative! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣

Built in 1875 by two of Hudson’s leading society figures – Herman Vedder Esselstyn, a prominent judge, and his wife Margaret, this Second Empire house is as historical as it is breathtaking.

The "Croff House" blends modern touches while preserving original details such as mahogany pocket doors, inlaid hardwood floors and a stunning sweeping staircase. During the 2008 renovation, modern upgrades were added such as multi-jet spa showers, gas fireplaces in two bedrooms and an on-demand hot water system. Outdoor spaces include shaded front and rear porches, a bluestone patio with fountain and well-maintained gardens.

Located in Hudson's fashionable and quiet cul-de-sac known as "Willard Place", once a gated community for Hudson Valley's high society.
