  • Theseus [3/3] Birthright The rain causes my clothes to adhere to my skin. We sit against a stone wall, handcuffed and waiting for the verdict. After about 15 minutes the guardsman walks over to us. Without hesitation, he says, "You are to be hung for your crimes at dawn." Quintis breaks down in tears, loudly pleading and praying. Felix simply stares off into the distance, an empty look in his eyes. We are picked up by our handcuffs and escorted to our cells. Somehow, it is even colder inside the prison than it was in the rain. I shiver uncontrollably. The priest stops by at midnight to read us our final rites. He goes from cell to cell, hearing our last requests. As he walks to my cell, he pauses and looks deeply in my eyes. “Prince Theseus?” he exclaims? After a pause, I respond, "yes." "Free this man!" he says. They undo my shackles and send a messenger to the king that I have been found. At dawn, I begin the trip home. I am forced to watch from my gilded carriage as the friends I made are hung for their crimes. Our crimes. The only real crime they committed was not being born to a king, I suppose.
