The saying goes to never judge a book by its cover…but when you were a kid, did you always reach for the story books with the pretty pictures? I know I did…and it appears I haven’t changed 😅 @likethewindmag is a work of art…it’s not only packed with brilliant photographs and artwork, but it’s filled with wonderful stories from runners around the globe…nothing on ‘how to run’ ‘what to wear’ ‘how to get a pb’… but inspiring, relatable stories about adventures and ‘why’ we run. This is issue 6 – a celebration of running in the mountains, with the UTMB route mapped onto the front cover (I was sucked in by the pretty pictures again!)
.
I was very kindly gifted it– however since seeing the artwork displayed in my local run store @runventure I have been meaning to get my hands on one. It’s not a something you will flick through and never pick up again, it’s like a book, something you want to sit down with a good brew and spend time reading. Another bonus, it’s printed on beautiful, matte, sustainable paper.  I’m treating myself to a yearly subscription, and have added some of the artwork prints to Santa’s list…😉🎅 *Right now, @likethewindmag are offering a free special edition copy of #runningthreads when you buy issue 22 or a year subscription. Makes a lovely Xmas gift for runners or those who enjoy adventuring outdoors 🎄🏃🏼‍♀️

Snowy trail runs are one of my favorite things about winter. The solitude, the beauty, the absolute stillness. Nothing but you, a few friends, and nature.

  • Well, I’m back in my cute boot.👢💁🏼‍♀️
.
MRI Diagnosis: Talus bone stress fracture
.
I had an MRI at 6 am the morning of CIM because I felt paranoid that I wasn’t fully healed from my injury, previously diagnosed as tendinitis with possibility of a stress fracture. I took 3 months off, and had slowly been starting to run again over the past month. Every run felt great and I no longer had the pain on the side of my ankle that I originally felt. But... I had all sorts of very minor aches pop up hours after finishing my runs- they ranged from ankle, to shins, to knees... literally everything felt off but I just assumed it was part of my return to running. My doctor suggested the MRI just to ease my worry, and I honestly thought nothing would show up on the MRI. I was shocked to say the least when Monday morning rolled around and I found out I had a stress fracture. So, a few more weeks back in the boot, and 8 weeks off running completely. Here we go again, injury round 2.✌🏼
.
On another note, I’ve deemed this @Fabletics outfit the official injured runner uniform after realizing this pic is literally a direct copy of @runtritam most recent post. Hey girl, I see you. 😘 I’m obsessed with this outfit, perfect for all of my lounging around during my time off running, andddd leggings are the best option to fit in the boot! Link in my bio for 2 leggings for $24 so you can get yourself some too. #MyFabletics #FableticsPartner #MoveInFabletics

.
.

  • 3:07!!! Wow. I never thought I would see the day where I completely shit the bed and still run a time like that. This was certainly not my goal but i told @afire12 that I would die trying if I had to. Ironically, this was actually a PR for me. My mind showed up to California but my body did not. A year ago I would have dropped a race like this. Not every day is going to be magical. That is an unrealistic thought process. I got my real magic moment a month ago at the Indy half marathon running a 1:24 and walking off the course like I hadn’t even raced. On Sunday I felt flat, labored, cramped, and exhausted. ITS OKAY!

A quick recap: @meryl_remington gave me a mile 11 pep talk, which is right about where I told her to go on without me (cue “my heart will go on” by Celine Dion). I struggled the remaining half of the race and started running paces I can run on my easy days. Yikes. I adjusted my goal to just getting to the finish line. At one point I heard a spectator yell “just get to the finish line and you have the rest of the day off!”. Legit advice dude.
Mile 22 was a shit show- I saw @jeremymeduri in the crowd and I wanted him to pick me up. I got to the finish line deader than I have ever been in a race. But MAN, it is so refreshing to have the love of your life meet you at the finish line and tell you they are so proud of you! He even remembered to bring the pepto bismol....... HE IS A GOOD MAN GUYS.
It wasn’t my day. I am at peace with that. My training wasn’t for nothing and I still get to reap the benefits of all the killer workouts I nailed this fall. I gained so much from this training cycle, not only physically, but mentally. I had numerous colleagues switch work days with me so I could get in specific runs, I had a coach who knew me and my training to a tee, I had @meryl_remington to run with and all my @cle_racing girls rooting for me. I had @afire12 ‘s voice in the back of my head and @saraheve64 ‘s calm, cool, and collected attitude. I had my number 1 sidekick on the sidelines @jeremymeduri (aka my secret weapon). Stick around for 2020 guys, I have some tricks up my sleeve!! #runcim #runnersofinstagram #fastgirls #pizza #byeboys #runnergirl

  • Make one person happy each day even if it’s yourself .
.
What do you do daily that truly makes you happy?
RUNNING for me is my happy because the road never discriminates, judges, or hates. It’s a stress-free zone of just letting go by working on myself for myself; and I think there’s a hidden beauty in that.
I did not say my Family because they are a given and have always been there for me which automatically makes me happy. What we have to remember is that happiness is a choice and exercise os the epitome of happy.
Happiness comes in all forms and exercise is truly something you should consider as a New Years goal.
Why?
▪️Exercise releases endorphins which are our feel-good chemicals. ▪️Exercise is known to trigger happiness in our brain where we can easily deal with depression, anxiety, loss, emptiness, and even as far as dealing with a disease.
▪️You get the highest level of happiness with exercise if you are just starting out.
▪️Tracking or logging your exercise will provide you with a sense of personal proud which ultimately delivers a happy moment. ▪️Positive effects of a workout on your mood
▪️Exercise will simply provide results which most likely lead to body image which then makes a person happy. .
.
After all, good health is happiness.
So if it’s exercise that makes you happy, I wish you all the best as you continue your journey to inspire others. You’re never too old or to late to start something new!
4 Miles to start out the week + Physical Therapy 🙌🏼

  • Some days I don’t have my shit together... like at all. 💀 couldn’t sleep, thinking crazy, and had zero energy to get through this run. Turned around at .25 miles then tried again. Went by feel and cranked out decent tempo miles and then wheels came off by the cool down mile which cut the goal mileage short. 6/7 miles this morning. Also didn’t even complete day 11 of the #fitmas challenge. We’ll try again next time. #keepgoing

  • This face pretty much sums up how much fun I had at CIM this year 😂. CIM race recap...
Trusted my coach and went out with the 3:10 pace group. I stayed with them til about mile 11-12, but I really was just slowly breaking away at that point. I shared about 5 miles with 3 ladies who were also trying to run sub 3:10. I focused my energy on coaching them. If you ever want to take your mind off your own discomfort, focus on others - I promise it helps! Every time I was hurting a little bit I prayed for someone else.
I felt so comfortable through the whole race, every mile marker I passed I said out loud, “you are so blessed to be out here!! How lucky are you that you get to be here!!” Switching my mentality from “have to” go “get to” this cycle was a game changer for me. Not just in running but for all aspects of life. Thank you to deena kastor for showing me that a positive, grateful mentality makes a huge difference.
I really never hit a wall. I know the weather wasn’t super ideal, but I was done making excuses this cycle. Thanks to @joe_tobinruns for another mantra I told myself at mile 22, “I’m tired of being effing mediocre”. For me, I realized that wasn’t tied to a time on the clock. It was tied to my attitude. I was tired of making excuses for all my “bad” races rather than just accepting those races as experiences to learn from.
My legs finally started to fatigue after mile 22, but I kept pushing. I ran an extra .10 miles just to high five the crowds and run over to my sister and run over to Elyse (who took this photo). Usually I’d be upset about not running the tangents but I was just so dang happy to see them 😘. I “sprinted” through the finish line right behind my teammate, Katherine, who I kept my eye on the whole race as a goal to catch her 😉. She helped push that last little bit I needed to get a 3:07 marathon and for that I am so grateful.
Grateful is the word to describe CIM. I knew the weather wasn’t going to be ideal and that the hills were hard but none of that matters. If you give your best self on that day you’re given you have nothing to be but PROUD🙏🏽💙.

  • I had a minor outpatient surgery yesterday and they said no running til Thursday, but when it’s 65 degrees in December... well...🤷‍♀️ anyhoo... 2 miles very easy (in case my doctor sees this)😜 Fun note- I may or may not have professed my love to the nurse as I was coming out of anesthesia yesterday🤭🤪
.
Happy Tuesday guys!💕 To quote my 13 year old, with all his morning enthusiasm today-
.
“MOM!! Do you know what day today is?!” .
(Me- “Uh... Tuesday?”☕️😴)
.
“Yep! And guess what that means tomorrow is!!!” .
(Me-Uh... Wednesday?☕️☕️) .
“YES!!!!! How cool is THAT?!?!”
.
🤔🤷‍♀️😂
