I've been looking for the best stretches for my stiff shoulder and over the years I came across lots of them. I was frustrated for the lack of improvement but persistent to find what works best for me and for any of you humans with the same shoulder problems.

So there you go, 4 of the best shoulders openers stretches / exercises.
β €β €β €
1) Single arm hang shoulders rotation
2) Poppin Shoulders
3) Face to wall handstand shoulder extension. For this one keep some space between your arms and the wall for your head and shoulder to move dynamically. Also you can go as far as you can with the stretch and keep a hold. 
4) Hollow back handstand. My personal favorite, either you move dynamically by pushing the floor, extending your arms and using your legs to push your hips down, this way the force is coming from two point, hips and shoulders or by holding that stretch as far as you can for as long as you can.

Drill: finger tip holds .
Stretch: Today I am sharing my favorite shoulder stretch. I am using my @dharmayogawheel and an 8 lb hand weight to help open shoulders, chest, upper back and lats. Tight shoulders can keep you from a nicely stacked straight up handy!  In addition it’s critical you warm up wrists. I love rocking in table top with finger tips towards knees. Strength: For hand strength I like to hold on fingertips. For more challenge try this in plank! And ...for all our inversions this round I will share a chest to wall entry option (hop, kick or press on up based on your skill level). 6x-REAL time video! πŸ™ŒπŸ»β€οΈ

So, I’m just under one leg length from the wall in an L shape which allows me to slide my lower foot up the wall to meet my straight up leg, reaching towards the ceiling! Remember to use those active hands for balance. Pads of fingers and base of fingers grounded. Think spider πŸ•·  hands clawing your mat!! Finger pads as brakes!! πŸ™ŒπŸ»β€οΈ

  • πŸ”ˆJust like a building, your handstand is only as strong as your foundation. When we handstand our hands become like our feet, so active spider πŸ•· hands are critical. Everything else then must stack over this foundation. Active spider hands means the finger pads and base of every finger are pressing down, with extra focus on the base of the index finger and thumb. Then the weight is distributed around the palms edges. You might almost feel a lifting in the center of your palm like the arches of your feet! I’m  working our way up from hands to toes reviewing 1- skeletal alignment (discussed here) 2- muscle engagement/strength and the 3- stretches/opening needed to find balance upside down!! Then in January we will play with leg shapes/drills (in any inversion at or away from the wall). 5+ minutes a day every day on your hands - just for FUN! πŸŽ‰
