With the @themiamimarathon right around the corner 🏃‍♀️ this #MobilityMonday post talks about dynamic stretching of the lower body. 🤸‍♂️ Dynamic stretching is the act of stretching muscles of the body while moving and is highly recommended prior to physical activity as opposed to Static Stretching. 💪 Here are 5 dynamic stretches for the lower body you should engage in prior to physical activity:

1️⃣ Hip Cradles ➡️ targets piriformis and other hip rotator muscles
•
2️⃣ Dynamic Quad Stretch ➡️ targets quadriceps and hip flexors
•
3️⃣ Knee Hugs ➡️ targets gluteus maximus and proximal hamstring insertion •

and once, on Peru’s night shift
he sneaked me in the stage door
at Saksaywaman
the navel of the world

I burned my offering
to Earth Mother and Sky Father 
and prayed like a novitiate
or a child
for the unification of opposites
to pull the plug
on binary thinking

I bowed, wondering
what reverence is supposed to feel like
and gagged back the green slime
of a sacred cactus
before wandering into the woods 
at a clearing above the falls
I lay at the foot of an ancient giant
Which stretched its limbs and branches wide
to hold a murder of crows
whose buttery black feathers
shimmered with the memory of green
gold, violet and blue 
the birds, dark as pitch 
fluttered down to the forest floor
and strutted, clucked, cocked heads
fixing me with their oil-spill eyes
and then, according to some cue
too subtle for human cognition
the crows pecked at my abdomen
in some strange and ancient rhythm
to eat the anxiety
right out of my innards

  • Two years later and I still shake, I still cry with shame. Two years later and I still flinch. My trust and safety didn’t exist and it’s still minimal at best. I think of you often and not because I want to. You haunt my memories, our old friends still ask of you, and things I find heavily tucked away. I moved, twice. Yet I can’t escape you. I blocked every number, every profile, every person that reminded me of you and yet, I still hurt. You’re not the saint you said you were and I hope for the person who you take next. I hope you’ve changed and gotten clean. I hope you’ve done better for you mental health. I wasn’t ever easy to shake, but you showed me what it’s like to live in fear. Paulo me procurou no fim de novembro, pois queria "dá um gás" para o fim de ano. Já que tinha passado por uma reconstrução do LCA e havia ganhado peso. .
.
A princípio seu objetivo era emagrecer e o meu objetivo era devolver sua funcionalidade locomotora, com o mínimo de desiquilibrios  musculares, para que futuramente ele pudesse praticar seus esportes com uma menor probabilidade de lesões. E consequentemente com uma consistência no programa de treinamento, alcançar seu objetivo principal, emagrecer, que na verdade seria aumentar a massa muscular ou evitar que está diminua, pois se trata de um homem beirando a terceira idade.

Resultado do programa de treinamento: 
Diminuição do desiquilibrios entre a perna operada e não operada, tanto de quadríceps quanto de posterior de coxa; aumento no desempenho de membros superiores; diminuição do tempo gasto para percorrer 2km e menor massa de gordura. Ou seja, todos felizes 😌🎯

1. How many times have you heard people just throw around “you almost gave me a panic attack” 🤦🏼‍♀️
2. On the inside I feel like I am shy but the perfectionist in me turns on in crowds and everyone I know would say I’m far from shy. 
3. The one thing in this world that affects all ages 
4. How many times have you seen a movie/show and the way they portray someone having anxiety makes you feel embarrassed to have it... never in my life breathe heavily in a bag 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
5. You are more than enough 
6. You can do anything 
7. Reason I switched up my page to show more of real life going through anxiety & not just graphics is because yes it’s important to inform but how can YOU implement how to get better from it? 
8. You should never be ashamed of something you are going through because I am here to tell you every single person you come in contact with today is struggling with something- their outward appearance might not show it but internally we are all fighting a battle.

  • a thing that’s hard is that anorexia is usually a way to cope, it has a purpose, it helps with something but in the end it stops helping and becomes more of a problem, you become worse off, and i think i really reached that point, a thing i read once was; All of anorexia’s solutions come with expiry dates. The hunger high tends to degenerate into chronic gnawing unpleasantness. The depression embeds itself to make life feel nearly unbearable. The obsessive-compulsive rituals brook ever less resistance. The money in the bank loses meaning (or is eaten away by the costs of illness). The friends you once had drift away. The compliments cease. The thinness is way past attractive. The specialness reveals itself as nothing more than the winning of a competition whose prize was misery. The utter predictability of anorexia is a greater terror than the universe’s unpredictability. And the universe stays how it always was, except now made just a little bit more miserable by your misery.

  • Sneaky little after work run tonight. It didn't go perfectly - my breathing was a little uncontrolled and I needed 4 doses of #Ventolin. Weirdly, my breathing was worst well after 30 minutes, which is unusual for me. I had to stop and walk for a minute or so. 🏃‍♀️ This distance does include my warm up where I ramped up from walking too. I was going to go a minute or so over to make up for it, but I walloped the bloody emergency stop at 49.53 as well so I didn't get a proper warmdown. I couldn't be arsed starting again as I worked a bit late and wanted to get home. Not least because I was looking forward to my delicious tea (>>) - chicken cacciatore cooked by my wonderful fella. 🏃‍♀️ Pushed myself to do 7kph for the majority. It wasnt comfortable - my legs wanted to go faster than my lungs, which is always challenging. I am up to 10% slower than running outside which is especially strange as the weather is so cold outside I should be better indoors. Anyway. I stuck with it, and hit my distance training goal for the weekend - only a day late, so there's that. 🏃‍♀️ #running #C25k #runningwithasthma #asthma #runnersofinstagram #runnersofig  #thisgirlcan #notbad #slowandsteady #recovery #training

All at the same time, I vividly remember how jealous I was of my best friend for having celiac disease. (Crazy right?) Because then I would be able to restrict even more and people wouldn’t think anything of it. I thought, why don’t I have the willpower?⁣⁣⁣

Looking back, I was really struggling with what I now understand as disordered eating. My body image was horrible. I couldn’t wait to step on the scale to see any minor change (which I now understand are normal bodily fluctuations). ⁣⁣⁣

Especially with big events like formals, I found myself restricting to certain “anti-bloating” foods.  Did it help? Not at all.  Did I swing in the other direction entirely. Of course. And did I have crazy guilt about it? Oh yeah. ⁣⁣⁣

I wanted to open up and share a bit of past with MY relationship with food because we all need to start somewhere. It’s not an easy process and it’s not about perfection. I still struggle every now and then with disordered thoughts about my body image and what I’m eating. BUT with time and a lot of self work, I’ve been able to develop skills to distract and re frame these to more rational thoughts. To be a little more in tune with myself, or introspective awareness. ⁣⁣⁣

I’m not here to praise that I’ve got it all together. My goal is just to inspire and guide you all to work on a better relationship with food, body and mind. ⁣⁣⁣

Im learning to fuel my body with things that dont poison my body, my mind or my soul.
It's something I struggled with for too long..so I sure as hell needed it.
And trustttt me..I know trying to stop old/bad habits is hard, but knowing the ultimate outcome is so liberating! Push for that, find what matters and do the damn thing y'all! Happy Monday.

Leslie has been an avid believer in both Whole Body Cryotherapy and Photobiomodulation for quite some time, but has recently incorporated NeuFit Neuro Therapy to facilitate healing after an extensive back surgery. This incredible human has not only made HUGE strides in her surgical recovery, but last week, we celebrated 🎉 the triumph of Leslie not having to use her cane for the FIRST TIME IN TEN 🔟 YEARS!

Leslie has shown such amazing strength, grit, and perseverance in not only managing her inflammatory conditions, but also in her recovery from a grueling surgery. Leslie, we are SO proud of you! May we all have your level of determination going into this week!!!

do we feel so overwhelmed in January? Could it be that literally as with all national holidays, when the clock strikes 12, the next holiday adverts are on?👇

. 🎃Halloween 12pm 'have you got everything for the PERFECT CHRISTMAS?'.🎄

🎉New years night. 12.pm 'have you booked your summer holiday?' 'What's your new years resolution? Loose weight, get fit? We have the perfect solution'🏖
.
🌱Grabbing our attention straight after, putting the pressure on to 'make it happen'. You start to be influenced by these messages, feel you must be doing something.
When in actual fact we haven't stopped throughout the year. When January comes we are tired. Getting our heads around another financial year, licking our wounds & peeking into our wallets with one eye open,😥 & if we haven't gotten a new years resolution on the go immediately. We feel????? Even worse.

🌱NO wonder you feel overwhelmed, no wonder Instead of thinking.
"This is the PERFECT time to recuperate' 
Your mind is full of doubt.

🌱AWARENESS 
Today. Try not to fall for it. Yes a new start, to want a new beginning, to change a part of your life that isn't working IS a good idea👍 *but FIRST*👇

🌱Take a well deserved break from the doing, from the adverts, from the pressure. Turn the ads, the constant influence off.
.
🌱Speak to yourself🗣 I need to take it easy for some time, to get my mental & physical health in order, then my house, finances, spend quality time with family. So that I CAN make a change & not be overwhelmed & my mind in circles.

Then you can work on the changes.
