  • My favorite of rituals, Raksha Bhandan or Rakhi, is an annual tradition where sisters tie strings on their brothers’ wrists as a symbol of a lifelong bond. Our girls are so lucky to have so much love - brothers and cousin brothers!
The history of Rakhi is so deep: it preserves the bond between brothers and sisters when in traditional parts of India, girls (treated like “property” that now belonged to a different family) are/were married out of their families at very young ages and had rare, infrequent, or sometimes no contact with their parents after marriage. The brothers are/were the only intermediaries between the sister and her family — a lifelong bond or a true lifeline! Now we celebrate our modern way (brownies AND Indian sweets) but we hope the bond is the still same. ♥️ #rakhi #brothersisterlove #grateful

  • I am using this post and taking advantage of the caption section to put my thoughts forward on Rakshabandhan; traditional festival which celebrates the bond between brother and sister. It brings joy and happiness to visit our brothers and mamas! For us females, it’s a chance to dress nice and refill that purse, for many anyways, if not all! To some who don’t know why we celebrate Rakshabandhan, google says ‘According to the Hindu mythology, it is believed that on every Shravana Purnima day the deity Yamuna used to tie a sacred thread on Yama's (God of death) wrist.’ Now this is all good right, but every year my Rakshabandhan starts with tying a rakhi to my beloved sister and there are powerful women out there who do the same! My point is, brothers can take the responsibility to look after their sisters, but as sisters, we should look after our brothers and sisters too! We should respect the tradition that has been going on for decades and decades but with greater understanding we can achieve a better motive. Please share this post if you have a similar approach! .
