  • In terms of how weight training can benefit mental health, I want to only speak about my experience and that of my clients. .

Before weight training, I had no way to switch my head off. I would constantly overthink, get overwhelmed and not have any way to get rid of my frustrations. .

When I train, not only can I switch off, I feel amazing. I feel in control. I feel like I’m making a difference, working towards something. .

My clients come to me usually never having picked up a weight in their lives. They’re frustrated about many things - their body, their work, their home life. When they’re in that gym, all they’re thinking about is themselves and how good they feel. All they’re worrying about is hitting their reps and moving well. .

Will training solve all your problems? Of course not. But it gives you space. It’s time that’s purely for you to feel good and improve yourself. An hour or two a week dedicated to yourself can make a world of difference. .
