  • If you are failing to plan, you’re planning to fail, you must always do research before going in to an interview.
Preparing for Interviews says a lot more about you than it does the company. Here are 4 things to know about the company before heading in to impress them.
1) Their products and services
2) Vision and Mission
3) How the market views them
4) How they treat their staff

  • Get to know our Co-founder Rox. We asked her what her favourite everyday objects were. ⠀
⠀
1. Black Blazer - I wouldn’t call myself super, or even a little stitious but I find myself searching for this blazer each time I have a hearing I’m particularly nervous about. I remember being in it at my first major win in court and I guess I’ve come to subconsciously associate it with good things. ⠀
⠀
2. Kindle Paperwhite - It’s a dream of mine to someday build a library in our home and fill it with all of the good books we’ve read so i’m loathe to admit that I reach for my kindle every day. You just can’t deny the benefits of having a variety of different books in your bag for the weight of one. ⠀
⠀
3. My Grandmother’s Watch - This was grandma’s. She gave it to mom who gave it to me. My grandma was the kind of human who made sure every single person on her street had enough to eat before she ate and I love having a little reminder of the legacy and standards she set for me to uphold. ⠀
⠀
4. Emerald Ring - Jon got this for me from a tiny little jeweller in Chania while we were on our honeymoon. There’s a cloudy lighting bolt right through the stone from a crack and it reminds me of seafoam and the greek ocean and the sticky ice cream cone I was holding when we got it and I love it for all its imperfections. ⠀
⠀
5. White Shirt - This is something I always have in my wardrobe. Throw on some work trousers and my black blazer and i’m ready for court, some lulus and i’m ready for a flight, denim shorts and i’m ready for the beach. Fuss free and versatile. 👌🏻⠀
⠀
6. Planner - I start my days with checklists, and this is where those checklists go. I feel like writing, even just checklists, helps clarify my thoughts. Each year I tell myself that THIS will be the year I start journaling.⠀
⠀
7. Toh Hsien Min’s Means To An End - I got this book of poems from a bookstore in Singapore the day before I left for University in the UK. I’ve always loved Singaporean literature for the way it’s so personally contextual and Means To An End is by far my favourite. It has since travelled with me to the Hague and Melbourne and I reach for it whenever I feel like i’m far from home.⠀

  • It was a blast and an honor talking to Actor Damian Maffei (HAUNT, The Strangers: Prey at Night, Closed for the Season) It's cool because he is also a horror fan like so many of us.
I had the chance to talk with him about some upcoming projects. He was kind enough to take the time to chat and it's appreciated.
Damian Maffei has quite a few projects in the works so be sure to keep an eye out for some more awesome movies coming! On Location, written and directed by Jeff Seemamn. Wrong Turn: The Foundation, directed by Mike P. Nelson, and A Nun's Curse written and directed by Tommy Faircloth.
He already played two of the horror communities most bad ass characters The Devil in the #HAUNTmovie and The Man in the Mask in The Strangers: Prey at Night. Go watch HAUNT on Shudder & everywhere else. "Actor Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night, Closed for the Season) took some time to talk with Horrornews.net. Damian has quite a few projects coming out this year. He will be starring in Wrong Turn: The Foundation, A Nun’s Curse and more. He will be doing the audio book for Cameron Roubique’s book, Kill River. It’s always an honor to be able to talk to Damian. He is smart, funny, he has a talented wife and three kids. Damian has a genuine love of the Horror genre and films in general." #Horrornews #DamianMaffei #Actor #Characters #OnLocationMovie #JeffSeemann #MikePNelson #EliRoth #TheDevil #😈 #ANunsCurse #TommyFaircloth #interviews #acting

  • This young lady cracks me up. On editing a #tudnotvtalks video this week this came up at the beginning, on asking her what she was doing (my back was turned) she explained that she was saying “she didn’t know what she was doing” This is not true because as you’ll see when the video is released, she did brilliantly. #filming #fs7ii #interviews #business #community #inspiration #motivation

The recap of my visit to ASOT 950 is up for reading on @nocturnaltimes .
It was so much fun meeting all these different kind of people, doing interviews, listening to some good music and so much more. I am glad that I went to this fantastic festival. At first I was reluctant to go alone with all my gear. But I met so many new lovely people that I probably wouldn't have met otherwise.
.
Big thanks to @alda events for inviting me and taking such good care of me

Let me know if you read and liked the article 💪🏼

  • 🌟Interview tips for medical school applicants🌟
⠀
Every time you take a step forward, make sure to look back and help someone else reach their dreams! 🙌
⠀
This year, I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing medical school applicants for the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine. It was so exciting to help recruit our next batch of aspiring doctors! Here are my interview tips for premeds applying into medschool:
⠀
🌟Smiling goes a long way.
⠀
🌟Interviews are a conversation! It is completely okay to ask the interviewer questions too. Keep your interviewer engaged!
⠀
🌟Do not talk vaguely. Provide specific (work, clinical, research) experiences for each point you want to make.
⠀
🌟Nonverbal communication is as important or even more important than the content of your answers. A lot of times after so many short interviews, all I can remember is how the applicant made me feel. Were they confident? Were they able to carry a conversation? Did they make me want to advocate for them? It’s difficult to remember the exact conversation, but I always remember a few unique, quirky, fun, memorable aspects of the applicant.
⠀
All of the things above come with practice! But first thing is first, constantly remind yourself that you deserve the interview. You are an AMAZING applicant to have gotten to the interview stage. You have an equal chance as any other applicant on interview day and please don’t compare yourself to the other applicants! You are a unique person and the sooner you embrace yourself and be confident in who you truly are, the more people will be inspired by you!

  • Currently reading advanced endoscopy fellowship applications for class of 2021-2022. 😱⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Time flies. Last year we extended interviews to 14 people out of ~85 applications received. It’s always interesting being on this side of the table, whether it’s evaluating prospective residents, fellows, or advanced fellows...Mainly because I still feel like I’m still in college, and because I’m always blown away by everyone’s CVs (which leaves me wondering how I even made it through the process) 😅⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Interview tips and all that good stuff to come later, but Feb. 28 is the deadline to apply and interview offers start going out nationwide March 16! 🙏⁣⁣
⁣

  • In case you missed it, USMLE Step 1 is now straight up pass/fail 😮 For anyone not familiar with it, Step 1 is a huge milestone in the med school process, one of the 3 boards you take before graduating, and probably the one most heavily used by residency programs.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
What will this change? Who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️ Residency programs will no longer have this metric to sort through applications and will have to rely on other things. Programs will have to look into other parts of your application--research, letters, activities--which for better or worse, aren't standardized between institutions or even individuals.⁣ While Step 2 CK will still be graded, it's not required for the application. ⁣
⁣⁣
Whom will this benefit? Reduce med student stress levels it probably will. But it's not like the test is gone. And med school wasn't meant to be a walk in the park. Schools will still have their own metrics (tests, AOA, etc.) that will be important. I felt like my med school did a great job of having no grades, no shelf exams, no competition--it worked great, but it didn't mean med school didn't take work!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
How will it change Plastic Surgery applications? I really think that Step 1 was ALWAYS pass/fail in the minds of residency programs. But not the benchmark set by the USMLE. When programs see your grade, they're just making sure you did fine. E.g. someone who got a 275 is not going to be more heavily regarded than someone with a 245. Both already PASSED the "did-fine" filter for the application reviewer. Also, Plastic Surgery is small. Rec letters matter as much as (or more than) the metrics, since the person reading your application likely personally knows the letter writer or has seen other students evaluated by them in the past. The PRS letter also includes a form asking the writer to rank you and evaluate you on qualities like teamwork, professionalism, patient care, etc. I think this is more relevant than a metric, but unfortunately this would only work in smaller fields.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
What are your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree with the change?
