  • You know why I travel solo? Because it's only when I break away from familiar voices, that I can hear my own urging me to ride my bike up that precarious mountain road and marvel at the red rhododendron covered hills. And even though I'm aware that one uncontrollable skid and I'll be down that mountain and who knows when I'll be found, I feel immune to that fear because I'll be gone anyway👣
.
.
And even though when I stop a local to ask the way to 'somewhere beautiful and isolated', they look at me curiously and ask why I want to go to a place like that alone, they ask me where my friends are. I tell them I just want to be by myself and they give me a knowing look like they understand, and tell me that zig zag gravel path that looks like a dead end actually winds up the road to a spectacular vantage point over the village 😇
.
.
And even though when I spread my picnic lunch out, overlooking the yellow mustard fields below and the snowclad Dhauladhar range above, I wish I could freeze the moment in time. Or atleast in someone else's memory so it isn't mine to reminisce alone. But then I make peace with it, because I'm here and living this moment, and that's all that really matters 💙
.
.
And even though I know I look crazy when I'm talking or singing to myself as the cold breeze ruffles my hair when my bike picks up pace, I don't care because I feel like I'm letting my spirit soar like it needs to soar 🐾
.
.
And even though when I go to return my bike and ask the bike rental guy if he can give me a ride halfway back from where I can try hitchhiking (because the bus takes such a long route to go where I need to), he nearly scolds me for thinking of venturing alone through those secluded mountain villages. I tell him that those villages are like home to me, but he insists on having his guy drop me all the way back 🌀
.
.
So even though sometimes I feel anxious, I travel solo anyway because I feel let in to the lives of people I meet along the way. I discover things about myself I never knew. And most of all, it makes my spirit soar and that's a pretty damn exhilarating feeling 🌏
