  • Tomorrow, millions of us will walk out of our workplaces and homes to join young climate strikers on the streets around the world. We say #FridayIsForFuture and demand an end to the age of fossil fuels and climate justice for everyone.
In addition, over 6,000 websites and companies are also joining the Digital Climate Strike tomorrow. Our house is on fire — let’s act like it 🌍🔛 #climatestrike #weareallone #ourhomeisonfire #globalclimatejustice

  • Do you know your neighbors? Are you friends with them? Do you feel like you have a lot in common? Are you afraid of them? Afraid they’ll meddle in your business and report you to some form of authority for something “you’re not supposed to be doing”? Is it just me, just us Americans, or just us Vegas Locals that feel this way right now? lol⠀
⠀
For more and more people, the typical answer to any of the questions above is pretty disheartening. Why is this? Why do so many people today feel so lonely? So “Other”? So different from their neighbors?⠀
⠀
Our ability to connect as a global society has lead to cross cultural exchanges that have been truly magical. However, it has also led to some major scale and control issues. There’s been so much talk about everything good and evil about Capitalism vs Socialism lately. So many countries, including our own, favoring Populism above all else, when across the globe, Consumerism and Corporatism seem to be the real systems of government. I honestly don’t think any of these systems are THE answer to our current local and global issues.⠀
⠀
I truly believe in the power of small, diverse local communities. Real communities that actually help each other, voluntarily sharing individual resources and coming together to make changes that positively impact the entire planet. If communities like MoNA lead by example, we can inspire others to create similar communities all over the world. If we THEN connect all of these local communities together on a global scale, then we have the best of both worlds. Call me naive, but I think it’s not only possible, it’s what I’m envisioning as the basis for growing MoNA.⠀
⠀
I know there’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all or a universal pill that will solve all of the world’s problems, but I do believe this is a practical place for us to start. What do you all think?⠀

  • As much as I love shopping for pretty homewares, over-consumption is a big reason that contributes towards the dire state that 🌏 is in. It is super hard to resist the temptation to buy new so that it all matches beautifully...
.
.
Nearly everything in this drawer is raided from all the spare items my grandmother has. Nothing really matches, I won’t have a pretty Instagram worthy dining set, but I think this is the right thing to do. 😬😌😬😌 Hands up or comment below, if you recognise all these items from your childhoods! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • Silent gratitude isn't very much use to anyone. Cultivating gratitude, without exception, makes you feel happier about life and that overflows into your connections. Butterfly effect 🦋 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Spent the day removing marine debris from the remote Five Rock Beach with @surfrideraus. In an hour our small group was able to collect 253 pounds of micro plastics, water bottles, caps, pieces of rope, and this large crate. I hate when people get all preachy but there isn't really a way to quantify the experience of standing out on a beach that took us hours of 4wd to get to and see thousands of pieces of plastic, ropes, caps, bottles, and even toothbrushes.
Sobering to know that these things weren't left here by careless visitors, but actually floated in from the enormous amount of plastic marine debris in our ocean. We need to take responsibility for our daily consumption of plastics/single use plastics. We can change in small ways or big ones, but just do something! Thank you Surfrider Foundation for your network of incredibly passionate individuals who take so much of their time educating and creating change and to @contiki for getting us all together. Looking forward to another beach clean on Sunday in Bondi. PC: @petehalvorsen #consumemindfully #contikistorytellers #sustainablecoastlines #surfrider #mizulife

  • Incredible photo by @juansharks of a #tigershark amidst two other shark species #galapagosshark and #sandbarsharks offshore #Hawaii Moments like this are increasingly rare as shark populations continue to decline. There is still time to stop the decimation of sharks:
5 simple ways to #helpsavesharks and #savetheocean :
1. If you eat seafood find out where it's from and how it was caught, that one item may have cost the lives of 9 other animals or more and most likely many sharks were killed as #bycatch Use #seafoodwatchapp on your smart phone to quick easy search for the item to instantly know it's sustainability level.
2. Reduce, reuse, recycle: Marine debris kills indiscriminately and affects everything.
3.Speak up for those without a voice/ Help raise awareness : In social media and with your friends, easy reposting helps, but you can take it a step further and cater your message to a specific crowd using hashtags.
4. Make your voice count: Sign a petition and vote when it counts, legislation is an area I am admittedly not the greatest at but I have great friends to help keep me in the loop, tune into friendly political accounts.
5. Support conservation based: research and ecotourism and non profits. Individuals, groups, and organizations that are constantly pushing for change, even just enjoying an eco friendly tour while you travel helps lessen your impact and can greatly support a good cause and efforts for protection and sustainability. #consumemindfully #consiousconsumer #enjoylife #respectlife #dogood #yourpersonalbest Some effort is better than no effort, I am far from perfect but I definitely #neverstoptrying
