Такие машины образца 1959 года были одной из главных доминант на американских дорогах, равно как веянием моды и атрибутом престижа. В основе культа лежал дизайн – «двухдверки» и «четырехдверки» создавались в эру, известную как «детройтское барокко», иначе – плавниковый стиль. Его характерными чертами считаются парные элементы в кормовой части автомобиля, стилизованные под хвостовое оперение самолетов, а также две пары фар по флангам огромной, будто выплетенной из стали, радиаторной решетки. Для отделки шикарного салона компоновщики не жалели кожи, дорогого текстиля и хрома.

В спинку переднего дивана на заказ встраивались электрические часы. В нагрузку к авангардному стилю шли четырехдиапазонная автоматическая трансмиссия, кондиционер, пневмоподвеска, усилители тормозов и руля, тонировка стекол, электрические стеклоподъемники, регулировка сидений электроприводом, музыкальный центр и даже система автоматического переключения дальнего света на ближний Autronic Eye, работавшая на фотоэлементах. И это всего лишь в конце 1950-х! Еще в списке опций значились холодильник, телевизор и проигрыватель для пластинок. Под капотом у всех автомобилей семейства скрывалась карбюраторная V-образная «восьмерка» объемом 6,3 л, мощностью 345 л. с. Максимальная скорость была ограничена на отметке 202 км/ч, а на разгон до «сотни» уходило 11,2 с, что для конца 1950-х, с учетом немалых габаритов «американца», было совсем не медленно.q

🚨 Continuing the little italian cars with this nice Panda 4x4 in very good condition, parked in Côte d'Azur. This is an important vehicle for one of us, because his mother had one for 15 years and of course, he grew up in it! It was a blue Fiat Panda Color (1994). 📌 In 1983, Fiat launched the Panda 4x4. Its body is identical to the two-wheel drive version. However, it is differentiated by an higher suspension of 5 cm and a tire width increased to 145 mm (instead of 135). It is based on an intermediate level of finish. Its four-wheel drive system is developed in collaboration with the Austrian brand Steyr-Puch, a brand which has always been closely linked to Fiat, and which has even manufactured Fiat 500 and Fiat 126 under license (check our last post about the 126).
Thanks to its light weight (around 800kg), the Panda 4x4 is a very good crosser, appreciated in mountainous environments or for work. There have been many limited series each with their specifications, but it has remained very popular and highly rated.

  • Thanks @nellythemini for this beautiful shot of these two british Gems! To sum up the post and I quote "15 years ago, a british motoring icon died. The longbridge plant officially closed its doors. I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved over the last 100 + years" and honestly I couldn't say it better myself! Longbridge produced many brilliant cars, many are still on the roads today, including these two beauties pictured and my own Mayfair. Nearly everyone will have known someone who has been effected by the longbridge plant either by employment or by their vehicles. And it's truly an honour to uphold such an icon for those workers who kept the cogs turning! The viking longboat may have sunk, but the memories will continue!

The introduction of the Panteta in the early ‘70s challenged conventions by offering striking aesthetics and an exotic mid-engine layout, plus American-bred V-8 performance and a relatively affordable price tag.

De Tomaso Automobili built a variety of prototypes, race cars, and road cars, even venturing into F1 in 1970 with a competition car for the Frank Williams team. Between 1976 and 1993, De Tomaso also held Maserati as a fully owned subsidiary.

Ford was already providing the Italian automaker with engines, and De Tomaso had the exotic chops to boost the Blue Oval’s image. A deal was struck wherein De Tomaso would produce a mid-engine, Ford-powered coupe, which Ford would then bring to the U.S. 
The stance is low and wide, with a nose that curves towards the ground in a graceful arc from a heavily slanted windshield. The roofline pushes the rear end out with forceful proportions that scream mid-engine performance. Viewed from the rear, the wide tires and quad exhaust back this assertion, complemented by a flattened tail that closely parallels the ground.
