  • The San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition (SDCBC) advocates for the health and well-being of mothers, infants, and children, with the mission to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding. The SDCBC is deeply concerned regarding reported conditions of immigration detention facilities housing children and adamantly opposes policies that result in the separation of migrant and asylum-seeking families. It is critically important to keep mothers and young children together in safe, hygienic conditions to facilitate not only the continuation of breastfeeding, but also to prevent malnutrition and the interruption of developmentally critical mother/child bond. The SDCBC agrees with Breastfeeding USA that “All children deserve to be treated with love and dignity. All mothers deserve conditions which support the full range of their mothering.”

Another week of actions by immigrants and allies demanding an end to the concentration camps at the border and the detention of all immigrants.⠀

"@risenresistnyc held a silent vigil to protest concentration camps for refugees July 8, 2019 at Grand Central Terminal in New York City. Seven children have died recently while in custody of @customsborder or shortly after release. Although abuse has been ongoing and pervasive according to the @aclu_nationwide the policies of this administration to separate children from parents and criminalize refugees has created nightmare imprisonment scenarios — lack of clean water, scarcity of food and medical care, of children left to care for infants, overcrowding in cages, sleeping with lights on and on bare concrete floors, refugees attempting suicide and widespread reports of unsanitary conditions. At the end of this post I have a map of 96 CBP facilities along the border. The ones marked in yellow and red are not only unsanitary and overcrowded but have documented cases of abuse. But it’s not just CBP, it’s also the secretive @immigrationcustomenforcement that maintains over 200 prisons and jails across the U.S. terrorizing and criminalizing immigrants.⠀
.⠀
#abolishice #closethecamps #neveragainisnow #stoptheraids #endfamilydetention #endfamilyseparation .⠀
.⠀
Trump is threatening to arrest millions in the coming days and weeks, although he has neither the facilities nor the money to do so.⠀
.⠀
There is a growing movement to end this nightmare. Call your representatives to support the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act (H.R.2415, S1243) and the Families Not Facilities Act (H.R.2217, S.388) and to repeal section 1325 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. End the racist policies that further victimizes refugees fleeing from life threatening situations.⠀
.⠀
At least ninety people have died after encountering CBP agents since 2010. The names of seven children who died this year were read out loud twice during the course of the one hour vigil. Several commuters openly wept."

  • I think it is too easy to say "that is happening far away" about many of the difficult and painful realities in the USA now. So I want to share with you something that hit home for me. Because having it happen to one of my own community made me realize how common this is in the USA now. How many people are being killed for their activism, or just for who they happen to be born as. (Poc, woc, queer...). .
I went to a small liberal arts college. We called our campus "the bubble" because at the time, the two big employment options in the area were our little college, and farm labor. There were tons of migrant workers, terrible public schools, and the Safeway store closest to the farms (and campus) was a total dump. You didn't use the hand sanitizer going in-- you used it when you came back out. The Safeway for the white middle class folks required a car to access. It was big, well-lit, clean, pretty. Since I graduated, the whole area has become a magnet for wineries and grape growers, pushing the winery and farm workers even further out to the margins. And while the college is liberal, the community continues to be very conservative and isolated.
.
Today I found out that someone from my little college was murdered in his home in that town. He graduated a few years after me. He came back to work supporting our vibrant international student program, and also led our very active GLBTQ+ community and related celebrations. He was also a member of the local Immigrant Rights Coalition. And one of the two degrees he received while a student there was Gender Studies, which I created.
.
Reading about this wonderful human, I found myself assuming he was killed because of his activism. Because of who he was or because he was speaking up for human rights in a time when --yes-- that can get you killed. And I am ANGRY that it is so easy to believe this is why he died. Sandra Bland's suspicious "suicide" in jail after a wrongful arrest woke me up to deadly racism. My peer's death woke me up to now-- a time when nonviolent activism and believing in basic human rights laws regularly gets people killed. Not just "down there," but also here. Wherever "here" is for you. CONT comments

  • ICE raids are happening now and families are being torn apart and terrorized. The second you set foot on American soil you are protected by the constitution. YOU HAVE RIGHTS. Please make sure you’re aware of them, and if you’re lucky enough to not be in direct danger from ICE then PLEASE make sure to keep your neighbors safe by making them aware of their rights and recording any and all ICE activity that you see in as much detail as you can and report it to your local ACLU or immigrant protection facility.
DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING.
DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR WITHOUT A WARRANT SIGNED BY A JUDGE OR MAGISTRATE.

  • I am what I am and what I am is just enough. And all that I have to do is show up.

These simple words were recently shared by a great teacher and have become my mantra, pretty much needed all day long.

This week I watched in Violet a moment where two rivers crossed. Her gorgeous Waldorf education which has nourished compassion, connectedness and presence to both delight and injustice. These flowing waters, strong and unstoppable crossed with her mother river who urged her into the world at this important moment when we all need to show up to shine our light upon those who need it. And on the night of the vigil there was nothing for her to say. We didn’t make a sign. We came with our apples and our beeswax candles and listened to the songs and the calls to action and the children asked a million questions. Some I had answers to, some remained lingering in the late night air of downtown LA. Together we showed up and I was grateful to have their light close to me. 🧡 Gentle reminder, a pretty good place for you and I to show up every day is on the phone sheets of our senators and representatives.

  • Two little ones approached me at the protest/rally against ICE and deportations. They asked what I was working on, so we talked and they helped with the posters. I explained to them that it‘s important to hold adults accountable for their actions - I told them I was proud and honored to have their young selves marching by my side, and we high-fived. Too bad I couldn’t high-five Carlos Hernandez Vasquez or any of the other children who have perished under ICE custody. It is imperative that we take action and stop the separation of families. If you can’t march, take to social media, take to the polls. Nobody is free until we are ALL free. #protest #rally #CloseTheCamps #ICE #deportation #WEARENATIVEAMERICAN #NoOneIsIllegalOnStolenLand

1. Classification: People are divided into “us and then”. 2. Symbolization: People are forced to identify themselves.
3. Discrimination: People begin to face systemic discrimination.
4. Dehumanization: People equated with animal, vermin, or diseases.
5. Organization: The government creates specific groups (police/military) to enforce the policies
6. Polarization: The government creates propaganda to turn the populace against the group.
7. PREPERATION: Official action to remove/ relocate people.
8. Persecution: Beginning of murders, theft of property, trial massacres.
9. Extermination: Wholesale elimination of the group. It is “extermination” and not murder because the people are not considered human.
10. Denial: The government denies that it has committed any crime.

  • Thoughts?

A group of protesters removed the #American flag from outside an #ICE detention building in #Denver and replaced it with a #Mexican flag and a graffitied #BlueLivesMatter flag.
Protesters gathered at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in #Aurora, #Colorado on Friday night to demonstrate against reported planned federal immigration raids in the city.

Some of the demonstrators pushed past the barriers near the building and pulled the flag from its pole in front of the building before replacing it with a #Mexican flag. A graffitied Blue Lives Matter flag reading '#AbolishICE' was also raised.

Police later removed the flags and put the US flag back up. #CloseTheCamps #ImmigrationInvasion #MassMigration #MigrantCaravan

  • I cracked myself up making this video BUT I did it because I have some super serious eclipse magic to offer. On Saturday durning my personal meditation I saw a vision of a spider helpfully wrapping up harmful distracting thoughts. She spun silk around a thoughtform and carried it to the edge of the web. She was teaching an energy clearing technique that is very effective! I’ve been using this visualization and it’s been really helpful with worries and repetitive thoughts. I hope it helps you, too.
This morning there were some white supremacist trolls in the comments of a post about closing the camps and I felt so angry! I wanted to engage, I was really tempted to put energy into the troll-hole. But I spider-wrapped the distracting thoughts, all the stuff the trolls were saying, and all of the responses I was thinking. I visualized a spider wrapping them up and carrying them far to the edge of a web, away from me. And then I took my energy and put it to better use.
.
If you try this, let me know what you think?
.
Thanks, spider! 🖤〰️🕷

COMING SOON. Look out for my interview with Barbara at #WildGoose19. ⁣

Barbara & I had an AMAZING conversation about her new book #HolyEnvy, about how she doesn’t actually like it when people say all religions are “basically the same,” but she DOES believe that they all share the same principles, and about she’d choose loving other humans over loving religion any day.⁣
