  • Here's a second very cool, old, rusty, metal sign for the Japanese Self Defense Forces.
.
I pass this sign while out on my running route all the time. It's on the side of a second older house just down the street from the first, and the weather certainly has taken its toll on it. But I think it's very cool.

  • In late February, 2018, I trekked across the megalopolis (and prefecture) known as Tōkyo, where, by the late afternoon on this day, scattered rains had crept their way across the Kantō Plain, showering the streets with cold winds and water, adding to the already brisk air blanketing the city (and her wards), and granting me a dramatic view from the highest observation deck at the top of the Tōkyo Sky Tree, 451 meters above the ground.
.
The sight was truly beautiful to see (and this image hardly does it justice), as the sprawling jungle of human construction, which stood as a marvel of progress and achievement, was yet still humbled beneath that which the Lord hath made.
.
It shows us that, no matter how great we pridefully boast to be, or how advanced we think we are, we are - in all actuality - tiny by comparison to all that God has created, and we should never forget as such.
.
Yet being humble before such a reminder doesn't mean you can't marvel at the sheer beauty before your eyes, and being tiny by comparison in no way means you're insignificant either.
.
Truly we are capable of great and meaningful things in our lifetime. Tōkyo itself stands as proof of such a statement. But none of that comes without hard work, some sacrifice, being of service, having humility, and enduring and learning from a little adversity along the way.
.
So take up thy courage, leave thy bubble, and embark on an epic journey down a path of achievement to great and meaningful things! Yet while you do, don't forget to bask in the glory of all the Lord has created, be thankful for all He has provided, and humble enough to know your place in the world...

  • Our path is impossible to see when we're at ground level, actively walking it. Our judgement is clouded by our inability to see what lies beyond a relatively short distance...
.
What we need then, is to rise above, to look at our path from great heights, so that we may gain clarity and perspective, that our judgment may be improved by gazing across the whole picture of what lies ahead...
.
Yet what most people don't seem to realize, is that getting above the fog of uncertainty in our life, is most often an exercise in getting above ourselves.
.
Most people can't see the right path to take because they prevent themselves from being able to do so. Their own thoughts, mental biases, and frame of mind prevents them from finding solutions or even making better choices.
.
If you find you might be walking in circles at some point in your life, before you think there's a problem outside of your understanding, consider first that possibly you, your mind, your own ways of thinking might be the actual problem first. Then, take a step back, and approach the problem from a different angle...
.
You might just discover a whole new perspective, rise above, and see the world anew.

  • In Kyoto, Japan, at the Ryozen Gokoku-jinja Shrine, there's a memorial hall dedicated to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice as service members of nations that participated in World War Two. Inside, is a card catalog filled with the names of those who died. Next to it, a series of shelves with dirt from the major military cemeteries around the world at the time this memorial hall was built and dedicated. It was truly an honor to be allowed to step inside and pay my respects, as a fellow soldier, to those who went before me and defeated evil for us all.

  • The thousands of torii gates at the Fushimi Inari-taisha - Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, are truly beautiful to see and walk through. I walked through every one of them, all the way to the top of the mountain and back down.
.
The Inari shrine in Kyoto is the head shrine of Inari shrines in Japan, and arguably the most famous and most beautiful to see. In Shinto, the shrine is dedicated to the deity Inari (a goddess), and is guarded by foxes who are said to be the messengers of the spirits. There's a lot of Inari shrines across Japan, and the foxes carry messages through a network using the torii gates as the entrance ways to the shrines.

  • Take time to unwind. Let go. Enjoy the world around you. Take in the sights and sounds... Relax. We miss so very much of life living in material things, electronic devices, and work, that far too often so many seem to forget there's a great, big, world of beauty out there right before your eyes. Life is short, and time is fleeting... So don't miss it.

  • Hidden Beach on Suo-Oshima
.
On the south-west side of the Seto Inland Sea, sits the island of Suo-Oshima. And on the south side of this islands' far eastern half, just south of Omiyama, and just to the east of the tiny village of Umagahara, along the sea-side twisting mountain path of route 60, rests a small private beach... You'd never know it was there, or that it even existed, yet it's a hidden paradise of private ownership... And so it has proven to be today... A great place for a full day of shore diving. ;)

The ruin serves as a memorial to the people who were killed in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945. Over 70,000 people were killed instantly, and another 70,000 suffered fatal injuries from the radiation. The Dome is actually the ruins of the original Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall.

  • Small town festivals are amazing because they truly only exist to bring a community together. They're not advertised, they're not for tourists, they're small, kept quiet, and perfect. Good food, friendship, laughter, and a warm atmosphere fills the street. Local merchants setup small street food stalls, and it's ok to poke a little fun at some bad karaoke. It's a good time for locals to come closer together, and that's why these little festivals are so perfect. This one just happened to be held for kids to dress up in summer yukata. Nothing more, nothing less. 🙂
