🇺🇸🇬🇧 Human Rights Watch’ report “Rainforest Mafias: How Violence and Impunity Fuel Deforestation in Brazil’s Amazon” shows to the World the true. When scaled back enforcement of environmental laws, weakened federal environmental agencies, and harshly criticized organizations and individuals working to preserve the rainforest, Bolsonaro’s administration and actions have effectively given a green light to the criminal networks involved in illegal logging, according to environmental officials and local residents. It’s putting both the Amazon and the people who live there at greater risk. .

  • When I think of the Amazon region, I think of the trees, the plants, the animals, but above all of the people. The ones I've met, that had an huge impact on me, inspired me, let me see a lot of things in a different way and made me rethink myself. The Quilombolas, descendants of former slaves.
Since forever they're fighting for their right of land, for their culture, their traditions. Always afraid that it will be gone one day, taken by modern times, the mining or agricultural industry. Claudinete (last picture) informed me, that the flames aren't there yet, but they're afraid and very concerned with "this disaster in the forest".

  • COMMUNITY is an essential part of the global climate solution.⁣
⁣
🌎 With the global outcry over the crisis in the Amazon, people have come together in a way like never seen before.
⁣
💪 This is the power of the Amazon. Not only does it play a vital role in our collective climate future, contain untold biodiversity, and feed us as well as our imaginations, it has reminded us all of what we are fighting for, why we are doing it, and how necessary and inspiring it is to build community as we do so in order to sustain ourselves.⁣
⁣
Collaboration is the lifeblood and how well we do it will determine our collective future. ⁣

  • On #AmazonDay we should be celebrating the incredible Amazon Rainforest and the unique benefits it brings to our planet.
And yet today, we are seeing the #Amazon burn and we need your help to #ActForAmazonia (link in bio)

The #AmazonRainforest contains 10% of the world’s biodiversity, as well as roughly 100 billion tonnes of carbon locked up in its plants and trees.

But if it continues to burn, this rich #rainforest ecosystem could be pushed to the brink of collapse.

WWF is united to help affected countries respond to this environmental tragedy.

We are: 👉Supporting needs for medical support, fire-fighter training and security among local and indigenous communities, in collaboration with expert local partners. 👉 Working with local governments on procedures for fighting fires and deforestation. 👉Continuing wildlife monitoring and rescue & recovery care projects. 👉 Campaigning for action from governments.
