  • Has quarantine life messed with your body image & workout mindset? I hear you - this major life change can be highly triggering.

When it comes to fears around diet and exercise, anything that’s showing up is likely unresolved in our “normal” lives, and therefore exacerbated during this period of quarantine. Personally, I can say that if this happened a couple of years ago, I would be stressed AF right now about potential weight gain. I’m grateful I am no longer there. Currently, I’m looking at fitness in the same way that I’ve come to look at it in “normal” life: a way to boost my endorphins and feel good both mentally + physically (which is HIGHLY necessary for me right now). This still means I’m listening to my body - doing what feels right, taking rest when needed and choosing workouts I’m in the mood for. It’s not about feeling pressured or weight gain.

I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am today with my relationship with my body, food and exercise. This relationship is by no means perfect, but I have made it to a place where my mental wellbeing, and truly feeling good, is way, way more important than how “fit” I appear to be. I’m not about to undo nearly 2 years of hard work with a therapist, several nutritionists/dietitians and doctors to land back where I was when exercise and food controlled my life. I have to make that choice every day - and also choose to be fulfilled not by the way I look, but instead everything I offer in this world to my family, friends, work and this community.

So this is where I’m choosing to keep my head at. I’m not judging myself if I feel like I haven’t “done” enough or if I don’t feel in the mood to move. When negative thoughts creep in, I’m choosing not to become them or punish myself for them. I’m not eating less or working out more because I’m stuck inside (…the opposite, tbh). I’m still honoring myself and trying as hard as best I can to stay on the course that works best for me. I’m grateful every day for my health, safety, and those who are working on the front lines right now. ALL of this is keeping me in check.
