I am so honored to paint this powerful painting celebrating this female achievement in history for a special exhibit at @SOFAexpo this year at @NavyPierChicago from Oct 31st-Nov 3rd! Curated by @emilymackie_inspired from @inspired.interiors, this piece will be showcased at their exhibit alongside works of art from 20 other Chicago female artists. All 21 artists have created personal, powerful works provoked by the number of years it has taken to receive equal rights in a list of categories essential to living in true gender equity (think everything from Supreme Court appointments and Presidential nominations to the right to economic identity). These thought-provoking pieces will be auctioned off via mobile device during the @SOFAexpo, with 50% of proceeds benefiting a women’s rights organization. I want to say this piece was so incredibly inspiring to paint (it TRULY was!), I however— did not anticipate the intense philosophical and ethical inner dialogue it provoked within once I dug into the stats and the challenges that lie ahead for females to go to combat. I’ll share more on that another day but let’s just say, this painting was a tough one to do justice to and I am...relieved that in the end, I was able to capture a singular emotion I wanted to that I so aim to capture in all my works.
